Police and security forces are reportedly now prepared to deal with up to ten terror attacks carried out simultaneously in London following the Paris atrocities.
Officers from the Metropolitan Police and SAS troops are on alert to deal with multiple strikes on the capital in a dramatic escalation of the readiness to tackle assaults on Britain’s streets.
The National Crime Agency is also said to have been ordered to prioritise a crackdown on firearms after the coordinated bomb and gun assaults on the French capital in November.
A Government minister familiar with the proposals told the Sunday Times: “We used to plan for three simultaneous attacks but Paris has shown that you need to be ready for more than that. We are ready if someone tries with seven, eight, nine, ten.”
Army units outside London are also on standby to help in the event of a wave of strikes amid fears of a Paris-style attack by terrorists returning from Syria.
And the British Army’s counter-terrorist bomb disposal unit is also reportedly building a team to tackle a chemical or biological “dirty bomb”.
Salah Abdeslam was captured during a major police operation in the Belgian capital Brussels on Friday.
