Their premature celebrations will soon turn to tantrums once Donald Trump moves into the White House.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Katy Perry are among the celebrities who have come out in force to share their joy after it was revealed the Dakota Access Pipeline would not go ahead at the Standing Rock Indian reservation.
Thousands of protesters erupted into cheers on Sunday as news spread that the Army Corps of Engineers would not enforce an easement that would have allowed a pipeline to cross the Missouri River next to the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation.
Protesters have spent months braving freezing temperatures and snowstorms at an encampment in southern North Dakota in a stand against the $3.8 billion pipeline, which activists argued would run through tribal lands, including a burial site.
Among the celebrities to praise the news was Shailene Woodley – star of the Divergent movies and ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ – who had previously been arrested while protesting.
She told a huge crowd: ‘We feel so honored to have been a small part of this movement.’
Cries of Mni Waconi – ‘Water is life’ – went up from the crowd.
Other celebrities took to Twitter to applaud the news of the stunning victory for pipeline protesters.
Leonardo DiCaprio wrote: ‘An incredible example of what we can do when we come together. Proud that #LDF joined the many voices that made our government listen.’
‘Proof that your voice actually matters,’ Katy Perry tweeted.
Chelsea Handler wrote: ‘It’s a good time for protesting to work in this country. #standingrock sending everyone lots of big love.’
It’s so obvious Obama is just pandering to these drooling morons, and their celebrations will turn to despair once this absurd order is reversed.
Heck, Trump can celebrate with a ribbon cutting ceremony come January.
