Desperate to deflect attention from the hapless Barack Obama, Democrats and now the New York Daily News have decided to wage a mindless jihad against the National Rifle Association. The pathetic attack against a law-abiding group that has nothing to do with terrorists is bizarre, even by Chuckie Schumer’s standards. And they’re shocked NRA president Wayne LaPierre doesn’t dignify their idiocy with a response to them.
Under the gun, with its leader nowhere to be found, the NRA faced a fusillade of new criticism Sunday for prioritizing gun rights over prevention of a Paris-style massacre in the U.S.
Showing no shame, National Rifle Association head Wayne LaPierre remained conspicuously silent about his organization’s opposition to a bill that would keep guns out of the hands of suspected terrorists.
Sen. Charles Schumer and NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton issued separate calls for inside-the-beltway boneheads to stand up to the powerful gun lobby and pass a bill prohibiting people on the terrorist watchlist from buying firearms.
The sketchy suspected terrorists are already on a federal no-fly list.
So if they’re likely terrorists already on a no-fly list, why don’t the authorities simply round them up? We can say with 100% certainty nobody on the list is an NRA member, so why this absurd attack on them?
“The same nefarious individual we monitor and bar from our planes, we turn the other way when it comes to allowing them to get guns and explosives,” Schumer said.
“The NRA has fought tooth and nail to prevent these individuals from the terror watchlist from being added over the past several years.”
A legal loophole allows an ISIS sympathizer already on federal authorities’ radar to walk into a state with loose gun laws and buy a firearm with little difficulty, Schumer said.
“Handguns, shotguns, assault rifles…they’d be handed over almost immediately,” he said.
This is absurd, and they know it. But why let the facts get in the way of this preposterous narrative? And speaking of preposterous, check out their front page today. Yes, outfitting a law-abiding American as a jihadi sure will help win the argument. Meanwhile, if we ever do have more large-scale terror attacks in this country, who do you want on your side: Charles Schumer and the NYDN editorial board or NRA members?
