The media took great joy in playing up this angle from Grandma’s secret emails.
As John Boehner was about to win the speaker’s gavel in 2010, Hillary Clinton’s political confidant offered a crude and scathing assessment of the Ohio Republican — calling him “lazy” and “louche.”
“Boehner is despised by the younger, more conservative members of the House Republican Conference,” Sidney Blumenthalwrote in an email to then-secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Nov. 2, 2010.
“They are repelled by his personal behavior. He is louche, alcoholic, lazy, and without any commitment to any principle,” Blumenthal wrote in a note to Clinton on Election Day in 2010, when the Tea Party movement swept House Republicans into power and elevated Boehner to House speaker.
A spokeswoman for Boehner did not respond to Blumenthal’s comments but focused instead on the controversy over Clinton’s use of a private email account while she was serving as secretary of State.
Like they should actually respond to this vicious hack? Yet curiously omitted from news reports about Boehner liking to drink was this fact:
Sidney Blumenthal, a senior Hillary Clinton campaign adviser and former White House aide to Bill Clinton, was arrested in January 2008 for drunk driving in New Hampshire, one day before the state’s presidential primary. Blumenthal, 59, was popped by Nashua cops after his rented Buick was pulled over for speeding. When Blumenthal, pictured in the above Nashua Police Department mug shot, showed signs of intoxication, a cop gave him a field sobriety test, which the Clinton operative failed. Blumenthal, who declined to take a Breathalyzer test, was booked into the Nashua lockup on an aggravated DWI charge.
We understand the Beltway media is lazy, but if they’re going to run with the Boehner bit, at least play it fairly.
