For Some Reason Hasbro Has a Harris Faulkner Hamster

Is there any limit to Fox Derangement Syndrome?  Guess we’ll find out at trial who the genius behind this creation is. Probably some asshole racist lefty.

A TV news anchor who has covered everything from presidential elections to the fall of world leaders is suing toy giant Hasbro for turning her into a hamster.

In her $5 million federal lawsuit, Harris Faulkner of Fox News Channel says she suffered “emotional damage’’ after the company gave her name to a character in its popular Littlest Pet Shop toy line.

Hasbro’s Harris Faulkner is a tiny tan-and-white hamster with blue eyes and a butterfly perched on its head — but it’s still a little too close for comfort for the Emmy-award-winning journalist, court papers say.

“Hasbro’s portrayal of Faulkner as a rodent is demeaning and insulting,” the anchor of “Fox Report Weekend” says in her suit.

“In addition to its prominent and unauthorized use of Faulkner’s name, elements of the Harris Faulkner Hamster Doll also bear a physical resemblance to Faulkner’s traditional professional appearance, in particular tone of its complexion, the shape of its eyes, and the design of its eye makeup,” the papers allege.

The toy particularly gnaws at Faulkner given her own journalistic pedigree, the document says.

“Harris Faulkner, the uniquely named, acclaimed veteran journalist and author, has worked for decades to establish and maintain her personal brand and laudable professional reputation,’’ her suit states. “Hasbro’s manufacture, sale, and distribution of the Harris Faulkner Hamster Doll is extremely concerning and distressing to Faulkner” and “has caused substantial commercial and emotional damage to [her].’’

Hasbro introduced the toy hamster in 2014. Faulkner says she “put Hasbro on notice’’ in early 2015 that the toy infringed on her name and likeness but says the company continued to peddle the hamster for months.

Probably wasn’t a good idea to ignore her at that time.

Let’s be honest – Harris Faulkner is not the most common name around and the journalist has been in the public eye for many years before Hasbro introduced the toy as part of its Little Pet Shop line back in 2014. In fact, Faulkner’s lawyers say she put Hasbro on notice about the matter in January this year but nothing happened. Well into the summer the toy was available for purchase off Hasbro’s online store – which might be of additional interest to you if you are a Terri Bowman or Dash McDernutt. The Harris Faulkner toy hamster does not seem to be on Hasbro’s Little Pet Shop site today.

But doubt that would quell the Fox Report Weekend anchor’s ire at this point. The “uniquely named, acclaimed veteran journalist and author” says in her complaint against the multibillion-dollar company filed this week in federal court (read it here) that she has “worked for decades to establish and maintain her personal brand and laudable professional reputation.” The toy hamster doesn’t exactly help that journo brand. Hasbro did not respond to request for comment on the lawsuit.

For some strange reason they’re still hawking this item.

This is an open-and-shut violation of her right of publicity. Hasbro is probably on the phone with its insurance company right now trying to figure out how much to offer. I worked with Hasbro’s in-house legal staff years ago and they were not too bright….I suspect that some will be updating their resumes soon.
