Steve Kroft might be the happiest man in the media over the Brian Williams scandal this week since it’s pretty much buried his own mess. But some women at CBS are creeped out by the perverted old man and aren’t thrilled he’s still around.
Married “60 Minutes” newsman Steve Kroft has apologized to his fellow correspondents after lurid details of his three-year affair with an attractive lawyer became public.
We are told embarrassed Kroft, 69, has made personal apologies to his co-workers, “60 Minutes” correspondents including Lesley Stahl and executive producer Jeff Fager.
It was revealed that the veteran correspondent had a series of hotel hookups with New York attorney Lisan Goines, and sent her a series of sexy texts, which left some of Kroft’s female colleagues “creeped out” and “cringing.”
The sexts include a Kroft classic composed in the office: “Working late. Just ordered out. Would rather be eating your pudding.”
We imagine if this was going on at Fox the cacophony about a hostile work environment would be deafening. Instead we hear crickets.
A source tells us: “Kroft has had a reputation as a ladies’ man for years, and female members of staff feel that now he owes everybody an apology. But Kroft isn’t going to apologize at a meeting, that would never happen.”
Instead, we’re told, Kroft made private apologies to his key allies, including boss Fager and Stahl. “He’s struggling at the moment,” our source said, adding that he’s back at work.
While Kroft is well-known for socializing and drinking with his colleagues after hours, another source told The Post’s Leonard Greene that, privately, Kroft is dismissive about his colleague Stahl. “He told his mistress that Lesley Stahl was deluding herself into thinking that she would be the next Barbara Walters,” the source added.
Curiously the frothing feminist mobs have yet to descend on CBS demanding his dismissal. Must be great having a free pass thanks to being a pathetic Obama suck-up.
