Former hostage Bowe Bergdahl will be charged with desertion, for allegedly leaving his base in eastern Afghanistan before he was captured and held for five years by the Taliban, according to broadcast reports.
“The Army has come to its conclusion, and Bowe Bergdahl … will be charged with desertion,” retired Lt. Col. Tony Shaffer told Fox News’ “The O’Reilly Factor.”
Shaffer said two sources have told him Bergdahl will be charged.
The Army is at odds with the White House, which doesn’t want the soldier prosecuted.
“This is shaping up to be a titanic struggle behind the scenes,” Shaffer said.
NBC News also reported that Bergdahl will be prosecuted.
