We just hope nobody interrupted to give him the good news during his round.
President Obama spent the first day of his winter vacation with a familiar pastime: hitting the links.
The president arrived at Marine Corps Base Hawaii shortly before noon local time for a round with aides Mike Brush and Joe Paulsen, along with longtime friend Bobby Titcomb.
Titcomb and Obama attended prep school at Honolulu’s Punahou School together during the 1970s. Obama’s winter vacations usually include a trip to his North Shore home, where recent visits have included barbecuing, volleyball, and jet-skiing.
In 2011, Titcomb pleaded no contest after he was arrested for soliciting a prostitute in Hawaii. He was ordered to pay a $500 fine and make a donation to a criminal injury compensation fund, according to the Associated Press.
The foursome will be playing on the Kaneohe Klipper golf course, an 18-hole championship course on the military base that offers seeing views of the Ko’olau Mountains and Pacific coastline.
Saturday marked the first full day of the president’s winter vacation, scheduled to last until Jan. 4.
