How appropriate the failed president was named one of GQ’s least influential people. Everything he touches turns to shit. After trying to placate the frothing mob by sending a White House delegation to Michael Brown’s funeral back in August, Obama took to television Monday night to blather on following the announcement there would be no indictment of Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson.
President Barack Obama issued an appeal on Monday for restraint by protesters and police after a Missouri grand jury decided not to indict a white police officer in the shooting death of a black teen last August.
In a late-night appearance in the White House briefing room, Obama also urged Americans to understand that much work remained to be done to improve relations between black Americans and law enforcement.
“We need to accept that this decision was the grand jury’s to make. There are Americans who agree with it and there are Americans who are deeply disappointed, even angry. It’s an understandable reaction,” Obama said.
No, acting like animals is not understandable.
A mob trashed police cars, setting some ablaze, as tear gas filled the air on the streets after a St. Louis County prosecutor said a grand jury of nine whites and three blacks had decided after months of deliberation not to indict Officer Darren Wilson in the killing of Brown, 18.
“We are profoundly disappointed that the killer of our child will not face the consequence of his actions,” Brown’s family said in a statement. “Let’s not just make noise. Let’s make a difference.”
Brown’s mother, Lesley McSpadden, had been sitting atop a car listening to a radio and burst into tears and began screaming after hearing the prosecutor’s announcement.
The crowd exploded into anger, converging with thousands of police officers in riot gear who were awaiting their reaction.
A Molotov cocktail was thrown at police officers, and they deployed pepper spray to disperse the crowd. The St. Louis police posted a picture of what it said was a peaceful protester hit in the face by a brick.
Obama’s America. Meanwhile, a Missouri Democrat State Senator declared a race war.
Monday night on MSNBC’s “The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell,” Missouri State Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadali (D) said of the riots after the grand jury announcement that Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson will not face charges for fatally shooting Michael Brown, “This is St. Louis’s race war. We didn’t have a race war like other cities throughout the U.S. This is our race war.”

Isn’t that helpful?
