Can’t wait for the big brains on Team Obama to throw her under the bus as they’ve done to the Sotloff family. Now we don’t expect the government to pay ransom for hostages, but the implication here is the Foley family was subject to prosecution if they did so themselves.
Now that indeed is appalling.
The mother of James Foley, the American journalist beheaded by ISIS, has spoken of her deep disappointment and resentment toward the Obama administration for their handling of her son’s kidnapping.
Diane Foley told CNN that she was ’embarrassed and appalled’ by the US government for how they dealt with her family and her son and claimed that they were even threatened with imprisonment if they tried to raise a ransom to free him.
She said that it felt as if her family was ‘an annoyance’ to the administration and began to feel that their desperation to bring James Foley home did not ‘seem to be in the strategic interest, if you will.’
As per official US policy, government officials told Diane Foley and her husband John Foley that they would not negotiate with ISIS for their son’s release, nor would they try to embark on ‘military action’ to free him.
On August 19, video was posted online of James Foley’s execution at the hands of a masked ISIS militant who told the camera in a British accent that the reporter’s ‘real killer’ was the United States.
The day later, in a surprising move, the Pentagon revealed they had sent a special forces team into Syria to rescue Foley on July 4, but arrived at the wrong camp and left empty handed.
Speaking to CNN’s Anderson Cooper, Diane Foley said that she felt cut off at every avenue by US officials and were threatened with prosecution should they try to pay for her son’s return.
