Critics called the gag ‘sexist’ and ‘objectifying’.

But Sofia Vergara has now opened up about her controversial Emmy Awards stunt from Monday night, which saw her step onto a pedestal that rotated 360 degrees, showing off her curves while the president of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Bruce Rosenblum made his annual speech.

The Modern Family star has blasted critics for having no sense of humour, insisting that the gimmick at the Los Angeles event wasn’t demeaning in the slightest.

She told Entertainment Weekly: ‘I think its absolutely the opposite. It means that somebody can be hot and also be funny and make fun of herself.

‘I think it’s ridiculous that somebody started this — I know who she was — who has no sense of humour [and should] lighten up a little bit.’

The joke fell flat when Colombian star Sofia declared it had always been her dream to come to America to do such a thing on stage.

I just figured out how the new NBC boss can make the doomed “Meet the Press” more edgy, as she puts it.

Hire Beyonce’s backup dancers, and have them standing on their heads flashing their buttocks behind the panel! Apparently, this is “feminist” per Queen Bey and the glitterati agree!
