Rhode Island Teacher Assaults Student for Eating a Cookie in Class

Your heartwarming public education story of the day.

A teacher at Slater Junior High School was arrested after a parent complained that he’d pinned her 13-year-old son against the wall and yelled at him for eating a cookie in the classroom.

Richard C. Koster, 49, of Cranston, turned himself in on a warrant Thursday and was arraigned at District Court on a misdemeanor simple assault charge. He was released on $1,000 personal recognizance.

Khrystyne Bento, who is an aunt, said the family insisted on filing a police report after they learned about the March 18 incident. Bento said the boy told her and his mother that Koster told him not to eat in class and became angry when another student said the boy made a face at him.

Bento said the boy told his family that Koster followed him into his next class, where he picked the boy up by his waist, pinned him against a wall and called him a “freak.”

We’re thinking NEA Teacher of the Year award for this clown.

That’s one of the state’s shittiest schools, though. Its students assault cops. 10:1 the punk had it coming, the cookie was probably the final straw.

maloderous… the kid was a jerk? Probably.

He broke rules by eating in class? Sure.

He was a punk? Maybe, no way to tell.

Therefore a teacher chasing him out of the classroom to assault and bully him was totally justified? He “had it coming”?

Nope… the kid being a jerk doesn’t mean the teacher wasn’t a lunatic who crossed the line and committed a criminal action.

You’re not allowed to assault people; not even if you think they’re “freaks”. At least last time I checked the law you aren’t… are the laws different for that in RI?

Maybe going to RI would be bad for me. I’m a bit odd, so I’d like to stay away form places where my peculiarities would make it legal for anyone to assault me without question.

It shows you what pantywaists we’ve become when we define a teacher putting a student against the wall as a criminal assault. Teachers need to have the tools required to enforce discipline. They should be expected to avoid causing lasting physical harm to a student, but should not be prevented from compelling a student’s attention, coercing them to go where they’ve been told to go, and punishing them when a student is disobedient. Most teens today need the occasional reminder that there are consequences for bad behavior. Come to think of it, most teens in my day needed the same.

Male teachers seem to be unusual enough, particularly as the grade of the students decrease. So, I’m wondering if this guy is teaching whatever subject, and gym. And, frankly, we all know what junior high gym teachers are like.

He should’ve punched the punk in the face as hard as he can so the punk youth will respect his authoritay!
