They’re calling it a “historic moment,” which tells us they’re using the same PR team that Obama employs every time he does something of any significance. Well, we surely aren’t celebrating and when these monsters return to what they do — killing people — we’re sure Obama will show some regrets.
Eh, who are we kidding?
The five Taliban terrorists sprung from Guantanamo Bay in President Obama’s controversial swap for American POW Bowe Bergdahl received a hero’s welcome as they arrived in Qatar, a video posted online Monday appeared to show.
In the silent, 30-second clip posted by an Afghanistan-based Web site, the terror commanders are greeted with hugs and kisses by a crowd of joyous men who embrace them as they emerge from a black SUV along a desert highway.
One ex-detainee, wearing what looks like tan prison garb and a white skullcap, seems to revel in his freedom by taking a big swig from a large glass mug.
NBC News, which first aired the video, said it could not “independently verify” the footage from the Kabul-based nunn.asia.
The five Gitmo detainees were released to Qatar after the Persian Gulf nation’s emir personally promised Obama last week that they would remain there for a year under close government supervision.
And the Taliban on Monday rejoiced over the “historic moment” created by the unprecedented prisoner exchange.
In an interview with NBC News from a secret hideout in Afghanistan, a senior Taliban commander said the deal marked the first time its “enemy” — the US — had “officially recognized our status.”
If only these guys called themselves Republicans. Then Obama would consider them the enemy.
In a message posted Monday on the Taliban’s Web site, Omar also said: “This huge and vivid triumph requires from all mujahedeen to offer thanks to the Benevolent Creator who accepted the sincere sacrifices of our Mujahid nation and managed the release of these five renowned Mujahidin from the enemy’s clutch.”
We’re just positive they’ll be well-behaved.
If anyone doubts that the five senior Taliban leaders President Obama released this weekend will return to the fight and kill more Americans, they need only look at what happened when the George W. Bush administration released a Taliban leader named Mullah Abdul Qayyum Zakir (a.k.a. Abdullah Ghulam Rasoul) in 2007.
Unlike the terrorists Obama just set free, Zakir was assessed by our military as only “medium risk” of returning to the fight. At Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Zakir pretended to be a low-ranking conscript and told officials he simply wanted to “go back home and join my family” and promised “I [have] never been America’s enemy and I never intend to be.”
But when he returned to Afghanistan, he quickly became one of America’s fiercest enemies, directly responsible for the deaths of U.S., coalition and Afghan forces. In 2009, Zakir was appointed as the Taliban’s “surge commander” in charge of countering Obama’s new strategy to deny the Taliban safe haven in southern Afghanistan. According to the Times of London, Zakir instituted a campaign of “increasingly sophisticated [roadside] explosives attacks”that killed British and U.S. forces as well as many Afghan civilians. He waged relentless war on the United States and presided over unspeakable atrocities before stepping down from military command in April. To this day, he remains a top member of the Taliban leadership council.
Multiply that by five and you have just a taste of what’s in store. By the way, for an administration that learns everything from the media, perhaps they should have read this.
