Idiot GOP Congressman Threatens Reporter: “Let me be clear to you, you ever do that to me again, I’ll throw you off this f–king balcony”

Posted by on Jan 29, 2014 at 8:03 am

This guy has been an embarrassment since he’s been in Congress. It’s time he goes. Look, we have as much disdain as anyone else for the media, but you cannot do this on live television.

Start writing that resignation speech, you idiot.

Rep. Michael Grimm went ballistic on a TV reporter on camera Tuesday night after the State of the Union address at the Capitol — and threatened to throw him over a balcony and “break you in half.”

The Staten Island Republican was in the rotunda of the Cannon Office Building discussing on camera the president’s speech with NY1′s Michael Scotto when the reporter tried to ask him about recent campaign-finance allegations.

Grimm stormed off, and Scotto explained that he wanted Grimm to address financial shenanigans surrounding the congressman’s 2010 campaign. Seconds later, Grimm charged back and got in Scotto’s face.

“Let me be clear to you, you ever do that to me again, I’ll throw you off this f–king balcony,” Grimm said. “You’re not man enough. I’ll break you in half. Like a boy.”

Later, Grimm insisted that the reporter “took a cheap shot” at him.

“I was annoyed. I was doing them a favor,” Grimm told The Post. “The reporter took a cheap shot at the end and I verbally took him to task. I was angry and I had every right to be.”

You may have the right to be angry, but you don’t have the right to threaten the guy. Congratulations, now you’ll be the face of the party. Moron. The following video doesn’t quite capture all the language clearly, but Grimm’s not denying any of it.

A former Grimm staffer told The Post that the congressman was a hothead who takes his rages out on journalists.

“Grimm has anger issues,” the staffer said. “This is not the first time he’s tried to intimidate a reporter.”

Update: Via Twitchy, this makes sense:

I disagree completely that this Rep is an idiot. I am of the opinion that it is long past time we should have stopped treating reporters as objective professionals and started treating them as the Liberal Democrat propaganda agents that they are.

From my perspective, there are a LOT of reporters that need a good punch in the nose for their deliberate advocacy.

  2. bannor on 29/29/14 at 9:34 am

Yeah if he was in the white house pulling this stunt the MSM reporter would of thanked him for degrading him like a common street corner prostitute, then later performed sexual favors for him in the parking garage.

  3. jwest on 29/29/14 at 9:44 am

Grimm handled this exactly as he should have.

I only wish every conservative representative was taking notes and would adopt this attitude.

  4. Lugo on 29/29/14 at 9:47 am

This is EXACTLY how ALL Republicans should deal with ALL reporters, who are scum and should be treated as such.

    Finally, a Republican with guts!

  5. andycanuck on 29/29/14 at 9:58 am

So he’s guilty of First Degree Hyperbole and should resign for it.

How about instead all the conservative movement’s bright lights coming up with a solid defence for him instead? How about having him defend himself by saying it was hyperbole and that it was no worse than threatening to have the IRS attack his enemies except he didn’t actually throw the lying reporter off the balcony?

We don’t need to give the left any more ammo.

We need to give the left a lot more ammo — from the barrel of a gun.

  7. bicentennialguy on 29/29/14 at 10:57 am

He shouldn’t have made a comment like that as it will now reflect upon the entirety of the political right in this country. I, however, would have made a flippant smart-ass comment however, such as “Why should I waste precious oxygen talking to YOU?” or something like that.

  8. Acethepug on 29/29/14 at 11:08 am

No, what is embarrassing is the “media” in this country.

It’s high time we stopped turning the other cheek and delivered just a thimbleful of the vile treatment BACK to the Left, and the “media” (but I repeat myself).

Maybe the threat should have been more figurative, but no, I am well past treating feral dogs and serial liars like they are decent human beings.

Where was the hue and cry from the Left over Menedez and his love for underage Dominican hookers? How is that not, according to the same hypocritical Lying Left, not a War on Women?

The “media” will get civil treatment when they start earning it, or when they start treating the Left the exact same way they treat the Right.

Since neither action will be forthcoming, the “media” should continue to be treated like the enemies they so very clearly are.

Playing nice hasn’t made an impact on the Left — a few good hard punches in the face (figurative, but literal if need be) might awaken those civil instincts. And if not, it’s still not as bad as they really deserve.

So no, I support Grimm, the same way the lying, amoral Left supports President Narcissus.

What concerns me is that the congressman lost control. That is a problem. At that point the reporter won, and won big. I strongly disagree with the notion that he must step down.
This brings me to the bigger question. When Democrats have such an infraction, they circle the wagons and protect the pol in question. Period. When a republican screws up, they circle the wagons and shoot him or her. That has to stop!
Which brings me to my next question. As republicans we hold ourselves to a higher standard, as does the media, and the public. Democrats like Barney Frank can have his male lover run a prostitution ring from Barney’s Washington DC house, and they are fine with it. What’s the problem? He didn’t know… This brings me to my point; if we hold GOP pols to such a high standard where are we going to get future candidates from? Should the GOP run monasteries in Tibet to make sure that the GOP candidate pool is “Clean” enough to run for office? Everyone is human, everyone makes mistakes, everyone has their secrets, and everyone has some regrets, everyone has a bad day.
The GOP needs to grow up. It is easier to shoot the GOP pol that screws up than to defend him or her. I it feel is based on the inherent fear within the GOP party. We need to stop being afraid, and having the Democrats use our fear against us. We need to use some common sense, if a GOP pol is doing cocaine, they should be gone like we just have seen recently. But bringing out the circular firing squad from the gang that can’t shoot straight because a GOP pol when off on a POS reporter? Asinine!

I just donated to Grimm. God bless him, I am SO TIRED of conservatives just letting the press walk all over us. The damned subject was supposed to be the President’s speech, while Grimm should have figured out the press was lying and avoided them, it’s ABOUT TIME we hit back at these lying leftist bastards. Grimm has more testosterone than the entire GOP leadership combined. WE NEED TO FIGHT BACK, the press deliberately lied about Obamacare, and is lying about immigration and the economy to protect Obama. The press H A T E S us — what possible good can come from being nice to them???? Romney was nice to them, and Candy lied her fat behind off about Romney DURING THE DEBATE ON NATIONAL TV — a public beating for her lying would have done her a world of good. Being nice accomplished NOTHING. There is no, zero, zip, de nada percentage in being polite to these people.

  11. John on 29/29/14 at 11:39 am

Not only can he, but he did and good for him. We need more politicians with backbone and the ability to kickass. Maybe Obama could learn something and stop being such a coward.

  12. misanthropic humanitarian on 29/29/14 at 11:42 am

Was it the right thing to say/do? Probably not.

However, why is there a big fuss? Rep Bob Filner did worse when he was a sitting congress critter.

Cut it out with the circular firing squad. Our “enemy” is not Rep. Grimm but the MSM and the RINOs.

  13. MadisonConservative on 29/29/14 at 11:46 am

Thanks, so many idiots, for defending the thuggish, violent actions of this fucking moron. You all look just as bad as he does, and your endorsements make all conservatives look just as bad.

Thanks a fucking bunch, you goddamned idiots.

  14. Acethepug on 29/29/14 at 12:29 pm

Keep ceding ground to the feral animals and serial liars.

How’s that Marquis of Queensbury thing working for you?

When you, and others like you, can explain how serial harasser and likely rapist Bill Clinton becomes an elder stateman to the Dems, how a reprehensible human being like murderer Ted Kennedy is called the Lion of the Senate, and how underage Dominican hooker connosuer Menedez is still around, then you can complain about how terrible the Right is.

Civility came about because each side knew the other could lay a world of hurt on them. The Left has forgotten this, and taken any civility offered as a sign of weakness. Worse, it has made them more brazen in their attacks.

A few good punches in the face, literal or figurative, and maybe the Left will start acting like decent human beings. If not, it’s a drop in the ocean of payback that they have well and truly earned.

It’s really awesome how we are idiots and Grimm is acting like a thug.

What does that make Obama? Or Menendez? Or Clinton? Or Kennedy? Do you have an answer for that?

When the Left at least makes an effort to police its own, when the “media” starts asking Obama gotcha questions once in awhile, maybe, just maybe, your course of action might be advisable.

But until then, I will treat these ambulatory pieces of filth as they have gleefully treated the Right.

We’ve tried turning the other cheek, they just slap that one, too.

There is indeed an idiot in this thread … but I don’t think it’s me.

To make it really, really simple: Don’t start none, won’t be none.

  15. Tuerqas on 29/29/14 at 2:01 pm

It was not behavior to condone, it was bad behavior. The unfortunate thing for GOP followers is that the bad behavior was started by the journalist, but nothing will ever be written to that effect. When the media is biased in a two party system, both parties and the media need to start over, pure and simple.

  16. Immolate on 29/29/14 at 5:00 pm

The party of anarchy and looting behaves like lawless looters, so that means that the party of responsibility and decency should behave like them in order to level the playing field?

Honestly, do you not understand why conservatives have higher standards than liberals? It’s who we are. It’s in our DNA. If we had their standards, we’d be in their party. This is so fundamental that it boggles the mind that people think we should magically change our stripes.

We don’t win by becoming nasty, any more than we win by becoming liberal. We win when we convince 50.1% that our ideas are better. If a voter has to chose between two frothing-at-the-mouth candidates, he’s going to choose the one that brings more experience, and that’s always going to be the Democrat.

  17. Bradoplata (@bradoplata) on 30/30/14 at 1:43 am

He knows he’s under investigation, so why didn’t he have some prepared bs answer to give the press?

Screw that guy for losing control and screw him for attacking Ted Cruz.
