De Blasio Announces Tough 62-Point Safe Streets Initiative to Combat Dangerous Drivers; His Driver’s Caught Speeding and Running Red Lights Today

Posted by on Feb 20, 2014 at 9:16 pm

Is there any politician in recent years who’s had more unforced errors so early in his term than this clown?

Just days after Mayor Bill de Blasio announced an aggressive plan to prevent traffic deaths, CBS 2 cameras caught the driver of a car carrying the mayor violating a number of traffic laws.

But the NYPD responded Thursday evening that the mayor’s caravan, which is operated by police, sometimes has to use special driving techniques for protective reasons.

As CBS 2′s Marcia Kramer reported Thursday, the mayor’s two-car caravan was seen speeding, blowing through stop signs, and violating other traffic laws. Kramer reported that if the driver of the lead car, which carried the mayor in its passenger seat, had been cited, he would have racked up enough points to get his license suspended.

When the mayor announced his 62-point safe streets initiative, which includes lowering the speed limit to 25 mph, he said, “We want the public to know that we are holding ourselves to this standard.”

But Kramer reported the mayor failed to practice what he preached Thursday.

CBS 2 crews found Mayor de Blasio’s cars going through a stop sign at a Queens intersection, and that wasn’t the only traffic violation caught on tape.

The safety violations came just two days after the mayor unveiled his traffic safety plan.

“We’ve put a very bold plan before you, and we want the public to know we’re are holding ourselves to this standard,” de Blasio said Tuesday.

Yeah, about that. Does as he says, not as he does. Or something.

Kramer reported if a police officer had been following the cars, and had pulled the mayor’s caravan over for his violations and issued tickets, the lead driver would have had his license suspended:

• Driving or rolling through a stop sign: 3 points;
• Driving or rolling through a stop sign a second time: 3 points;
• Going 10 mph over the 30 mph speed limit: 3 points;
• Going 15 mph over the 45 mph speed limit: 4 points.

The grand total for all four violations, had they been handed out, is 13. Your license can be suspended if you rack up just 11 points.

So his driver’s license will be suspended, right?

    “Is there any politician in recent years who’s had more unforced errors so early in his term than this clown?”

    Let see: snow on the sidewalks, didn’t close school one day, somebody made some phone call.

    Upon further review, this might be the least error filled two months in the history of the NYC mayoralty.

    “Protective reasons”? Are they afraid that someone might lob a snowball at this idiot? It’s going to be a long four years, but they voted for this dolt, so now the people of NYC will suffer the consequences of their stupidity.

    “the NYPD responded Thursday evening that the mayor’s caravan, which is operated by police, sometimes has to use special driving techniques for protective reasons.”

    Really? There’s been credible threats made against this rolling circus? A spontaneous mortar barrage perhaps?

    Did any of the useful idiots bother to ask if this was the casse here? And if so, why they HAD to use them?

    One law for the rich, another for the poor.

    when it comes to democrats, its all bullshit…

    “Fen’s Law,” which states that “The left believes none of the things they lecture the rest of us about.”

    its ALWAYS BEEN LIKE THAT ALWAYS WILL

    Well surely the obvious and sensible policy is to institute ZiL lanes for the Mayor and other apparatchiki too important to obey traffic rules like the peasantry have to. I mean, if de Blasio got stuck in midtown traffic on a Friday night he might be late getting to his dacha err I mean Gracie Mansion.

    its kinda like when bill clinton signed off on making it OK to ask people (men) accused of sexual harassment (of women) about their sexual past during the trial, and then he gets accused of sexual harassment and so now HE has to answer the difficult questions about HIS sexual history

    at the time i equated it roughly to racking yourself in the nuts by stepping on the rake that YOU left in the front yard

    DOH!!!

    I live in NYC and voted for Joe Lhota. I hate it when people say that us NY’ers deserve what we get BUT it is true. Barely 30% of eligible voters voted. Out of that, over 70% voted for this socialist d-bag.

    New York deserves every bad thing that comes from this fool and his “progressive” (hate that term) bullsh*t/

    Combat traffic deaths ? WHAT traffic deaths ? I’d love to know how many people actually die in traffic accidents on the streets of NYC. Not on highways. And not involving alcohol. I’m betting its in the low single digits, if it isn’t zero.

    271 deaths in 253 accidents (all numbers are for 2012).

    108 motor vehicle occupants killed in accidents in NYC.

    Obviously all of them were drunk & on the highway, so, like you can’t really get mad at car drivers per se.

    149 pedestrians killed by cars in NYC.

    But I’m sure the pedestrians deserved it. Probably just jumped out in front of the poor car drivers (who were drunk & on the highway, obviously).

    18 bicylists killed by cars in NYC.

    But I’m sure the cyclists deserved it. Probably rode without helmets near those helpless car drivers (who were drunk & on the highway, obviously).

    A dozen or so people injured every year when cars jump curbs & ram into stores in NYC.

    But I’m sure those stores deserved it. Probably serving the wrong size drinks to jumpy pedestrians (& the car drivers were all drunk & on the highway when it happened).

    In the interest of fairness, bicycles do hit pedestrians, which in NYC caused *drum roll* 1 fatality. Of a bicyclist.

    There was also 1 bicycle fatality not involving either an automobile or a pedestrian.

    If the national numbers can be interpolated to New York City (~50% of pedestrian fatalities, ~40% of motor vehicle fatalities, & ~30% of bicycle fatalities involve alcohol; though it’s not clear from the numbers which party has been enjoying the alcohol in every instance, it should be reasonable to conclude that cases not involving alcohol do not involve alcohol for any party in the accident), that would be 75 sober pedestrians killed by sober drivers, 12 sober bicyclists killed by sober drivers, & 65 sober motor vehicle occupants killed by sober drivers. That would be a total of 152 people killed by sober drivers in NYC.

    Pretty frightening stuff, if you ask me. Somebody needs to make driving on highways & drunk illegal. Especially for pedestrians.

    There is no reason to violate traffic laws for a protective package (motorcade) to violate traffic laws unless there is an immediate threat to the protectee. Obviously there was no immediate threat at the time of that motorcade to the mayor. In fact, even the Presidential motorcade violates traffic laws only under immense escort and with police blocking each and every intersection so accidents don’t happen. The spokesperson for the NYPD is a liar.

    Addendum: none of what I said at all mitigates the fact that DeBlasio is a hypocritical, self-serving twat who deserves to get t-boned by Chris Christie driving a 1966 Lincoln as he (I don’t care which one, in this case) runs a red light.

    Q: DiBlasio is heading westbound at 13 gazillion mph (protectively of course) and Jon Corzine is traveling eastbound at 1.6 billion mph (one for each dollar he made go bye-bye). At the current rate of bullshit from the MFM, when and where will a peasant be run over?
