WWE Star: ‘I’m Gay and I’m Very Happy’

Has Obama placed the congratulatory phone call yet?

A TMZ cameraman had no idea what kind of scoop he was stumbling into when he asked WWE star Darren Young if a gay wrestler could be a success.

“Absolutely,” he said with a laugh. “Look at me. I’m a WWE superstar and to be honest with you, I’ll tell you right now, I’m gay. And I’m happy. I’m very happy.”

Yesterday’s low key announcement makes the 29-year-old, whose real name is Frederick Douglas Rosser, the WWE’s first openly gay wrestler, and the first headliner to come out for any promotion.

Young went on to say that he hoped his coming out would make things easier for others.

“I hope so,” he said. “I’m hoping to be able to make a difference. It’s very important to me that people understand that someone’s sexual preference shouldn’t really matter. It should be about the person.”

Having never watched this guy or even heard of him, we’d never have known he was gay. Then again …

Let’s get real for a moment, this weenies real name is Frederick Douglas Rosser (I wonder why he is ashamed of his family name?) and he apparently never actually wrestled. He played football and he probably couldn’t stand-up against a moderately skilled high school wrestler let alone an animal from college.

Fred’s life is full of pretend moments including his occupation, name and (let’s face it) his life in general.

People who are gay should, in my opinion, be perfectly comfortable saying so. I’ve never found a reason to be worried about it. If F.D. Rosser could have spoken of his sweetheart, Maria Jamison, why would I be worried if he spoke of his sweetheart, Tim Jones? And that seems to be about the position Mr. Rosser-Young is taking.
