Just when you thought people couldn’t sink any lower.
A New York woman has been arrested for faking a brain injury and defrauding the One Fund out of nearly a half -million dollars, according to officials.
Audrea Gause, 26, told One Fund officials she had suffered a traumatic brain injury in the Boston Marathon bombings, and had been hospitalized at Boston Medical Center and the Albany Medical Center. She claimed to suffer from memory loss, impaired speech and loss of some motor function and was approved for a $480,000 claim by the One Fund Administrator in June.
The Attorney General’s office said they received information that Gause was not in Boston on the date of the marathon, and found that she was not at BMC.Today in Troy, N.Y., local and Massachusetts authorities arrested Gause after a low-speed “coming to terms” chase over four blocks, Troy Police captain John Cooney said. She was with her infant son at the time.
