White House Official: Yes, Obama Was Lying When He Claimed He Found Out About His IRS Scandal From the Media

As if we needed confirmation. Anyone gullible enough to buy Obama’s lie that he found out about his IRS scandal must either work for MSNBC or Media Matters.

Well, now we know they were aware of this at least a month ago.

The White House’s chief lawyer learned weeks ago that an audit of the Internal Revenue Service likely would show that agency employees inappropriately targeted conservative groups, a senior White House official said Sunday.

That disclosure has prompted a debate over whether the president should have been notified at that time.

In the week of April 22, the Office of the White House Counsel and its head, Kathryn Ruemmler, were told by Treasury Department attorneys that an inspector general’s report was nearing completion, the White House official said. In that conversation, Ms. Ruemmler learned that “a small number of line IRS employees had improperly scrutinized certain…organizations by using words like ‘tea party’ and ‘patriot,’ ” the official said.

President Barack Obama said last week he learned about the controversy at the same time as the public, on May 10, when an IRS official revealed it to a conference of lawyers. The president’s statement drew criticism, focusing attention on his management style and whether he has kept himself sufficiently informed about the agencies under his authority.

It’s simply not plausible Obama didn’t know about this, especially since the orders to go after Tea Party groups came from the top, according to an IRS official in Cincinnati.

“We’re not political,’’ said one determinations staffer in khakis as he left work late Tuesday afternoon. “We people on the local level are doing what we are supposed to do. . . . That’s why there are so many people here who are flustered. Everything comes from the top. We don’t have any authority to make those decisions without someone signing off on them. There has to be a directive.”

Even if that directive doesn’t come from Obama himself, the buck stops with him, whether he likes it or not.

    Well, this is actually good news, well goodish.

    What would it mean if the Democratic administration of the federal government was so dysfunctional that agency manager had to plant questions in the press so that the President could learn of a serious misuse of official actions by government employees?

    That someone had so effectively broken the chain of command that the only way the President could learn what was going on in his Administration was through public news reports?

I think it started with Nixon’s impeachment and they haven’t come to terms with their side being a bunch of criminals so they make stuff up about Obama to take their historical pain away.

    I don’t think Lyle spent enough time on this one. This is the crux of liberal groupthink today, but Republican partisans are not far behind.

    Bush was not mentioned in the article nor in the commentary to that point, yet libs have been so programmed to counterattack with ‘Bush was worse’ or ‘Racist!’ that the excuse no longer even needs to fit the topic. MarkD, your comment shows zero original thought and seems 100% automatic. Are you really sure that is the best way to live a life? Seems like a big waste of time to me.

    Re-read, or more likely, read qzy’s comment 4 for the first time. Do you really think that only one party needs to be overhauled? Conservatives, do you believe Republicans deserve much more respect? A decade or so ago, Paul Ryan introduced what he thought was a watered down budget plan that should at least delay the inevitable collapse of the dollar, but soon learned that he had no concept what the phrase meant. Any serious reform is laughed out of Congress…

    I postulate that the reason why Obama may not have heard of any of these issues is that they went through Valerie Jarrett. She is the key here, in my view, the gatekeeper. This struck me as I saw her sitting immediately behind Obama when he gave the commencement address at Morehouse College over the last weekend. Why would she be there? She is the handler.

    We have no reason to believe that obama is being shielded by Jarrett or anyone else.

    This is where the “fun” begins.
    1.Most of us do not believe that obama is this stupid or shielded to this degree. But without proof, it can be spun as being groundless accusations.
    2. Strangely, him being shielded works well for them, since they can feign outrage at the allegation that a black man is being controlled, while simultaneously enjoying the benefit of plausible denialibility.

    Either way, he somehow remains on top, much like Biden being a “gaffe machine” and still having access to the WH.

    I care less about the actions of the individuals at the IRS(after all, people are going to do bad things), and more about the reaction from Liberals around the country. The fact is 95% percent of Liberals either don’t give a shit that Conservatives were targeted, or they’re actually happy about it.

    And, the quote from the Declaration of Indepence isn’t a warning or a threat. It’s a common sense statement about what will inevitably happen when a government abuses it’s power.

    Does anyone really think that Liberals will enthusiastically abuse their power at the IRS, but abusing their power under Obamacare will be crossing some “red line” for them? I have a feeling they’ll be just as happy, perhaps moreso, abusing their power over life or death decisions for Conservatives.

    First if all, nobody has brought race into this, except you. Second, I think it’s entirely plausible that Obama is shielded by Valerie Jarrett, totally. This is the Chicago Way, which I know very well as I live there. I’ve watched Obama his entire political life, understanding that he is not nearly as bright as he has been lauded, and is entirely a made-up entity. Taken together, Jarrett’s conniving and Obama’s average at best intellect, and you have the perfect Stepford POTUS.

If WE are floating theories that “gee, maybe he didn’t know because (…)”, then we’re buttressing his gag line that he learned about HIS IRS department in the news. And you can count on the lapdog media to chime in AND play the race card and every other card they can conjure. That crap already started about the damn umbrella.

    Really? How abusive do they need to be? When the world moves away from the dollar as the standard currency and our entire worth as a nation loses about 35% as a direct result of printing 85 billion extra dollars per month while intentionally holding interest rates artifcially down? Will that be be enough? Do we have to wait until Gov’t seizes all personal retirement savings over X dollar amount and call it fair?

    The problem with the above quote being a ‘common sense’ result is that schools went away from teaching common sense at least 3 decades ago. They now teach that the constitution is a vague guideline, that much of it is ‘outdated’, that belief in God had no influence upon its writing, that any judge’s reinterpretation is likely more valid because it contains knowledge of today, etc. Even when I went to High school in the late 70s they taught that a constitutional convention would only happen as the result of armed insurrection and so was unlikely and ‘undesirable’.
