Smart Diplomacy! U.S. to Open Direct Taliban Talks

These are the same people who treat Tea Party activists as if they’re criminals. But the Taliban? Sure, we can talk to them!

The US is to open direct peace talks with the Taliban, senior White House officials have announced.

The first meeting is due to take place in the coming days in Doha, Qatar, where the Taliban have just opened their first official overseas office.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai said his government is also sending a delegation to Qatar to talk to the Taliban.

The announcement came on the day Nato handed over security for the whole of Afghanistan to government forces.

US officials said prisoner exchanges would be one topic for discussion with the Taliban, but the first weeks will mainly be used to explore each other’s agendas.

However, the talks are on condition that the Taliban renounce violence, break ties with al-Qaeda and respect the Afghan constitution – including the rights of women and minorities.

We’ve had a whole year of a contrived “War on Women” narrative from Team Obama, and now they want to make nice-nice with a crew of medieval scum who treat women like subhumans.

I’m confused. We were told repeatedly that people who dared disagree with the dear leader were “just like the taliban”. Except now he’s willing to talk to the real thing. Wow.

Once again I will plant a little seed hoping others can continue to nuture and prune and fertilize it. This seed will be for a campaign stunt by the Tea party to announce that they will seek formal peace talks with the Obama administration to be held in neutral Switzerland. The demands of the Tea Party at the talks will be:
recognition of the U.S. Constitution, restoration of the rule of law, the turning over of various members of the administration for crimes against humanity and to leave Trig alone.

I think talking to our sworn enemies is smart, It worked so well with N. Koreaa and N. Viet-Nam. Are we asking for a round table or a group of small square tables? Kerry is the man for the job He can set the lines by throwing his medals to determine the truce lines. OMG We really are in trouble!
