I think it was an old Chris Rock gag that the most dangerous place to be in a city if Martin Luther King Boulevard. How true.
Five people were wounded in a shooting at the intersection of LaSalle Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard on Monday afternoon.
Officials said none of the injuries was life-threatening.
Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas was among those who responded to the scene. He told WDSU that a group of six teenage boys or young men was gathered outside a small grocery when a late model white sedan — possibly a Nissan or Pontiac — drove past. Shots were fired from inside that vehicle.
The violence happened less than an hour after the city’s annual parade honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. passed through the neighborhood — something that wasn’t lost on residents.
“It’s ridiculous this violence happened on this day,” one witness told WDSU.

When I moved to Florida many years ago as a single, naive white girl, the gentleman at my new car insurance agency gave me a new road atlas and advised me as follows: Were I to ever find myself on MLK Boulevard, in any city, I should turn around immediately and get out of there.
Sage advice I have followed to this day.
