The left will always let you know who they fear most and these days they’re engulfed in a full-blow case of Ted Cruz Derangement Syndrome. The Washington Post this week has wall-to-wall coverage of Cruz and stories of his birth certificate, with more stories on Cruz being born in Canada than can be believed. Jeff Bezos must be thrilled with his investment. NBC, meanwhile, is tailing him around as if he’s a serious presidential candidate, which clearly scares them to death.
Republican Sen. Ted Cruz held a town hall Tuesday night in Dallas with one message: Defund Obamacare. To make sure no one forgot, the mantra was printed on a banner behind him on stage. The Dallas town hall was one of the nine stops on the Heritage Action’s August #DefundTour.
The freshman senator was introduced by his father, Rafael Cruz, and followed by former senator, now Heritage Foundation President, Jim DeMint and Heritage Action CEO Michael Needham. Cruz has been one of the loudest proponents of a plan to shut down the government in order to defund the Affordable Care Act through a continuing resolution. Cruz minimized the impact of a possible shutdown, explaining that the last time this impasse was reached the result was “a temporary suspension of non-essential federal government spending” with no stoppage to distribution of Social Security checks or military functionality.
NBC’s Kasie Hunt reported Tuesday night on The Last Word that Cruz is at odds with the senior senator from Texas, John Cornyn, who now opposes a government shutdown as a way to defund Obamacare. Rand Paul and John McCain have also spoken out against the Tea Party tactic.
“We’ve all seen this movie before,” Cruz told the crowd. “President Obama and Harry Reid are gonna scream and yell ‘those mean, nasty Republicans are threatening to shut down the government.’” He explained the crucial step to ensure victory: “One side or the other has to blink. How do we win this fight? Don’t blink!”
The time-tested liberal tolerance was on full display, egged on on the pathetic DNC hack Brad Woodhouse, who manages to embarrass himself on a regular basis. Woodhouse squeals with delight that two, count ’em, two hecklers showed up, as reported breathlessly by the — surprise! — Washington Post.
The conservative senator handled each interruption calmly, asking that he be allowed to finish his remarks.
“You have health care, we should too!” chanted a pair protesters near the end of Cruz’s remarks.
Cruz responded, “Thank you for sharing your views. You know, part of the First Amendment is about respecting others.”
Pro-Cruz attendees then drowned the protesters out with chants of “USA! USA!”
“I’ll make an observation about those two young men,” Cruz said, after the noise subsided. “Number one, I agree with them. They should have health care and Obamacare is causing more and more people struggling to climb the economic ladder to lose their health care.”
Then, Cruz lauded his supporters for outnumbering the opposition.
“Every time they’ve come to protest in Texas, they’ve sent a small group of people, and ya’ll have outnumbered them two, and three, and four to one.”
Here’s a clip of the liberal schlubs being drowned out by chants of “USA! USA!”:
Meanwhile, we don’t even have this post ready when lo and behold, here comes Woodhouse and his WaPo minions to again obsess on Cruz. This is weird. Instead of promoting Obama his his little college bus tour, they’re going full Cruz Derangement Syndrome at 6:30 in the morning. Have a nice day, kids!
