This makes two so-called hate crimes in Manhattan on Sunday, both involving protected classes. Sunday afternoon it was several men of color who attacked and brutalized a gay couple near Madison Square Garden. Now we discover a strapping Columbia University student has been charged with a hate crime for threatening an Asian man early Sunday.
What has happened to the rich diversity and tolerance of Mike Bloomberg’s New York?
A Columbia University football player has been charged with a hate crime after an altercation outside a campus dorm building last weekend, cops said.
Chad Washington, 19, was arrested yesterday over the incident early Sunday morning.
He grabbed a 19-year-old Asian man on West 113th Street and made ethnic slurs while threatening to pummel him, police said.
Washington, who is black, is a 6-foot-4, 250-pound defensive lineman.
Civil rights “leader” Al Sharpton and National Nanny Bloomberg were unavailable for comment. Columbia, meanwhile, offered up this laughable statement:
“We can only say that Columbia is widely recognized for the core values long defining us as an urban university community: the multi-cultural diversity of our students, faculty and staff; our openness to people and ideas; and tolerance for our differences. And we will continue to be guided by these essential values.”
Tolerance, huh? Except if you’re an Iraq War vet in a wheelchair.
