As if nanny-state nightmare Michael Bloomberg hadn’t already sacrificed every last ounce of credibility with his nonstop intrusions into the daily life of New Yorkers, this should be the final nail in his political coffin. It’s one thing to naively think you can disarm law-abiding citizens, but when you count a dead terrorist as a so-called victim of gun violence, you should never again be taken seriously. He didn’t personally come out and say this, but it’s his group, so he owns this idiocy.
Michael Bloomberg’s group Mayors Against Illegal Guns has sparked a firestorm after mistakenly including the name of alleged Boston bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev on a list of victims of gun violence.
It wasn’t a mistake. It was intentional.
Tsarnaev‘s name was read aloud during the No More Names event held Tuesday in Concord, New Hampshire, to promote stricter gun control laws.
Attendees of the rally were outraged to hear the Tsranaev memorialized alongside actual shooting victims, with at least one participant shouting, ‘He’s a terrorist!’ according to the New Hampshire Union Leader.
The 26-year-old was shot dead in April during a police gun battle just days after Tamerlan and his younger brother, Dzhokhar, had allegedly set off two deadly explosions at the finish line of the Boston Marathon.
Tsarnaev’s cause of death was listed on his death certificate as due to ‘gunshot wounds of torso and extremities and blunt trauma to head and torso.’
The organizers of the name-reading event, a 900-strong group that includes the New York City mayor and his Boston counterpart, Tom Menino, quickly apologized for the mix-up, saying in a statement that they relied on an interactive public tally of gun violence victims complied by the online magazine Slate.com.
Blaming it on a leftwing rag? Please. They used the name, they read the name and they’re so deluded by their warped ideology that to them Tsarnaev was a victim. Besides, they’d read it already and nobody said a word.
The mayors’ organization admitted that Tsarnaev’s name was likely read repeatedly during the previous tour stops, but the error had gone unnoticed until this week. New Hampshire GOP Chairwoman Jennifer Horn said in a statement that inclusion of Tsarnaev was ‘outrageous’ since he ‘was a murderous terrorist and a cold-blooded killer,’Concord Patch reported.
She also took a shot at Mayor Bloomberg’s group, lambasting it for being ‘out of touch with New Hampshire values that it believes this monster should be labeled as some kind of victim.’
Dan Kois, an editor at Slate, explained to The Atlantic Wire that Tsarnaev was purposely included on their list.
‘The interactive is a tally of all the people who’ve been killed by guns since the Newtown shootings. So it doesn’t differentiate between good guys and bad guys,’ he said.
‘We were studiously attempting to be as clear as possible that this was not victims of gun crimes…it was everybody that’s been killed by guns since Newtown.’
According to the editor, Tsarnaev was far from the only person on the list shot by law enforcement while committing a crime.
