A rather sympathetic puff piece on corrupt Democrat Senator Bob Menendez from the Star Ledger today. While portraying Menendez as the victim of the evil right-wing blogosphere, they don’t appear to have any problem with Menendez flying around with a guy who owes the IRS over $11 million.
The FBI, which confirmed Wednesday it had executed a search warrant on Melgen’s office, would not discuss the nature or scope of the investigation.
“The only information we are providing is that we are conducting law enforcement activity in the general vicinity of 2521 Metrocentre Blvd, West Palm Beach, FL,” said Jim Marshall, a spokesman for the FBI in Miami.
While no one would disclose what sparked the search, Melgen’s financial problems are no secret. There is an outstanding $11.1 million tax lien lodged against him by the IRS.
Says plenty about his judgment that he’s hanging around and allegedly frequenting underage prostitutes with a guy who owes the government so much money. And why is he gladly accepting his money in campaign contributions?
Despite his tax woes, Melgen, 58, is a prolific campaign contributor. Not only is he a top donor to Menendez, but he also supported the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee chaired by Menendez, the New Jersey Democratic State Committee, and others in Congress, including Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Bill Nelson. He and his wife also contributed $20,000 to a legal fund created when Menendez was facing a recall effort by tea party activists.
Read the rest. It’s quite curious how now the Star Ledger has such voluminous information of the shady dealings of Menendez and his supporter but withheld the information from the public during his recent campaign. It’s almost as if they were trying to shield him. It’s also worth noting they’d never have reported any of this if it weren’t for those “right-wing and conservative bloggers” they sneer at.
Update: Menendez now is rushing to pay the tab for the flights he claimed to have never been on. Curious, huh? We wonder who’s giving him the money.
