Maureen Dowd: Hey, Maybe Some of This Conservative Paranoia is Justified

Posted by on May 12, 2013 at 11:34 am

Looks like this column was penned days ago, so Maureen Dowd helpfully went back and added some parenthetical details. How gracious of her.

THE capital is in the throes of déjà vu and preview as it plunges back into Clinton Rules, defined by a presidential aide on the hit ABC show “Scandal” as damage control that goes like this: “It’s not true, it’s not true, it’s not true, it’s old news.”

The conservatives appearing on Benghazi-obsessed Fox News are a damage patrol with an approach that goes like this: “Lies, paranoia, subpoena, impeach, Watergate, Iran-contra.”

(Though now that the I.R.S. has confessed to targeting Tea Party groups, maybe some of the paranoia is justified.)

Welcome to a glorious spring weekend of accusation and obfuscation as Hillaryland goes up against Foxworld.

The toxic theatrics, including Karl Rove’s first attack ad against Hillary, cloud a simple truth: The administration’s behavior before and during the attack in Benghazi, in which four Americans died, was unworthy of the greatest power on earth.

So Karl Rove is toxic, but not Benghazi cover-up. Thanks for clearing that up.

even an embittered old dried-up hack finds the truth once in a while when it hits her upside the head. She doesn’t deserve accolades

Reading the reader comments is depressing. Basically, they all say the same thing. No matter what Obama does — no matter how incompetent, corrupt, dishonest, etc., he is shown to be, and no matter how many Americans die as a result of his malfeasance — it’s still okay because . . . George Bush was worse!

    You really can’t fix stupid.

Pity the fools, and i mean the republicans… they get sooo excited when the media pats them on the back and tells them they’re kinda right… guess when it comes down to the media we’re all McCains, eh?

Stop being marks! this is SOP for the lib media, they make such a big deal after it no longer maters anymore, just so they can say later the metrics show them being less biased.

    SOP for the media:
    1. make big deal about rumors and lies about republicans… after the election, say oops if necessary.
    2. ignore big deal about dems… after the election, say oops if necessary.
    3. rinse and repeat, the rubes will never catch on.

please, PLEASE, stop falling for it already! and metrics need to take timing into account!
