Lanny Davis on Obama’s IRS Scandal: “This hurts the Democratic Party and will hurt anybody who runs for president in 2016. I’m nervous”

Let’s get through 2014 first. We suggest the GOP run on a platform of abolishing the IRS, but knowing The Stupid Party they could find a way to screw that up. But it’s curious how a diehard Clintonista in Lanny Davis is concerned that Obama’s IRS scandal could derail Queen Hillary’s 2016 coronation. We figure Benghazi has more of a chance to stymie that bid, but hey, whatever it takes.

The growing IRS-Tea Party scandal, which has robbed Democrats of the so-called “trust edge” they held over Republicans, is now jeopardizing the Democratic majority in the Senate and even hopes that Hillary Clinton will replace President Obama in 2016.

“This hurts the Democratic Party and will hurt anybody who runs for president in 2016,” said former Clinton White House counsel Lanny Davis, a major supporter of Hillary Clinton. Speaking on national radio’s Andrea Tantaros Show, he added that if the the White House had prior knowledge of the IRS scandal, “It will make it almost impossible to elect a [Democratic] president…I’m nervous.”

Meanwhile several Democratic and GOP political advisors told Secrets that the combined scandals–IRS, Benghazi and the media source hunt–threatens the Democratic grip on the Senate. House advisors are even predicting that they will pick up nearly 10 seats if the scandals continue to eat away at the party’s trust.

If the Obama scandals continue to plague him through the midterms and the GOP takes over the Senate, impeachment would seem to be a no-brainer. But they won’t have the guts. If it puts a halt to Obama’s agenda and jettisons Clinton’s hope, we may have to settle for that.

I think impeachment would be a really bad move. If Obama were to skate, the GOP would end up damaged just before the election. And even if he were convicted, that’d be two Dem presidents in a row that that the GOP had impeached. You know that would be touted as “Oh, that’s what the Republicans do.”

A far better strategy, should the Republicans win the Senate, would be to step up the investigations. Once the GOP controls the committees, that will be easy. Keep grinding away at those administration flunkies. Even if no great revelations come from them, at least it would make this administration synonymous with taking the fifth, weaseling the language, and not recalling anything. It’ll make them look either corrupt or incompetent or both.
