James Gandolfini dead after heart attack

James Gandolfini, the Emmy-winning actor who played Mafia boss Tony Soprano in the award winning HBO series, has died of a heart attack, The Post has learned. He was 51.

HBO confirmed that the heavyweight actor suffered a heart attack while in Rome, Italy, late today.

Gandolfini, who was born in New Jersey, was best known as the gruff mobster in smash TV show, which ran from 1999 to 2007.

His first Broadway role for “A Streetcar Named Desire” in 1992 and his breakout big screen role was playing a hitman the Quentin Tarentino-penned “True Romance.”
