Intelligence Reports Warned of Possible Embassy Attacks for Months: “Why is this coming out now?”

Can we question the timing yet? Surely this has nothing to do with the devastating reports about Benghazi late last week, right?

Intelligence regarding al Qaeda plans to attack U.S. embassies, officials, and interests last Sunday was known for months by U.S. intelligence agencies but was used only recently to trigger the closure of embassies and issuance of public warnings of impending attacks.

Al Qaeda “chatter” about coming terrorist operations, mainly against 22 U.S. embassies and consulates, and threats to attack or bomb officials in the Middle East and elsewhere was widely reported in classified intelligence reports over several months. The report said an attack was planned for Sunday, although no attack was carried out.

The intelligence was based on electronic surveillance of al Qaeda communications indicating some type of spectacular bombing or other attacks was being planned and would in fact be carried out very soon.

The timing of the administration’s announced closure of numerous U.S. embassies in the Middle East has raised concerns among some U.S. officials that the Obama administration is politicizing intelligence to distract attention from the Benghazi and other scandals.

“Why is this coming out now?” asked one official with access to terrorist threat data. “Is the administration trying to suck up news coverage with the embassy threats to distract attention from what the CIA was doing in Benghazi?”

It sure does seem suspicious and it had the desired effect at Monday’s press briefing where not a single question was asked about Obama’s Benghazi scandal and the new revelations.

Former House Intelligence Committee Chairman Pete Hoekstra said he is concerned that the administration may be politicizing intelligence because “they have politicized everything.”

If there is any hint at all that this [latest terror threat] was politicized, it would be absolutely outrageous,” Hoekstra said in an interview.

“In an era of ‘phony’ scandals, let’s hope no one is playing politics with national security and threat alerts,” Hoekstra told the Washington Free Beacon, referring to President Obama’s recent dismissal of Benghazi and other administration scandals as “phony.”

I think the timing of the embassy closings is very suspicious. It looks like an effort to “distract” the citizens from the “phony scandals” — especially Benghazi.

Phony Bengazi scandal = 4 murdered Americans.
Scary terrorist threat resulting in a week-long shutdown of US embassies in multiple countries = not a shot fired or even a rock thrown.
Maybe those terrorists should have posted a clip on YouTube.

I’m sure it’s just a coincidence that Obama’s birthday was this weekend.

Surely he didn’t shut down the embassies just so his golf party wouldn’t be interrupted.

Obama even has the republicans on the intelligence committee lying for him and verifying the threat. Anyone see who killed the Amash-Conyers bill to restrict NSA data collections? Hint, it was not democrats. People making this an Obama thing are losing credibility on the issues. They are turning it into partisan political fodder instead of seeing the reality of it.

Yay! I’ve been wanting to say this for years! So many of my friends seemed to get such great use out of it.

    “I question the timing.”

Ooooh, brings back memories it does.

As a former military officer (AF pilot) I am very torn by America’s current status where we have what appears to be govt that is not just out of control in socioeconomic terms, but utterly incompetent vis-a-vis foreign policy and counter-terrorism.

It may well be that the closing of diplomatic facilities is politically motivated – a “shiny object” of bipartisan origin. If so, it is an effort to control the public perception and distract from other things while we collectively stare at this shiny object…

Note that the other big “bipartisan” effort is immigration reform and that the primary effect of what is euphemistically labeled “immigration reform” and being pushed so hard is that it will manufacture tens of millions of predominately center-left and left votes – far more than enough votes to grant whomever controls those votes complete control of the federal government in 2 to 3 national election cycles.

I’m not sure how all the moving pieces fit together, but the timing is not coincidental and the latest “shiny object” helps Obama/Dems deflect from their “phony scandals” and helps distract from the effort to cram a thousand page immigration reform bill that no one will read down our throats.

Maybe with all that’s going on, I’ve become a bit paranoid… then again, maybe not.

“In an era of ‘phony’ scandals, let’s hope no one is playing politics with national security and threat alerts,”…………

Of course they are. What else would this be? Everything is political with this bunch and because of that it makes them extra dangerous. They would not recognize a real threat because they think everything is manufactured/phony.
