Considering all the prior predictions have missed the mark, let’s just move this one up 86 years. By then maybe they’ll free the idiots from the Antarctic ice.
Temperatures are on course to rise at least 4 degrees by the end of the century, according to research that finds earlier climate models projecting smaller increases are likely to be wrong.
The research, by a team led by the University of NSW, says a 4-degree rise in temperature would be potentially catastrophic for agriculture in warm regions of the world, including Australia.
Tim Blair pours a little ice on this one:
The team from the University of NSW were unavailable for further comment because they are stuck in millions of tonnes of ice.
Speaking of those morons, the harsh effects of climate change has further delayed their rescue. Oh well.
Rescue authorities said another attempt would be made as soon as conditions allowed.
John Young, general manager of emergency response with the Australian Marine Safety Authority, said the rescue would involve three ships, a helicopter and a barge. An emergency helipad had been prepared on pack ice next to the trapped ship, Akademik Shokalskiy, which had been chartered for a scientific expedition to retrace the original voyage of Douglas Mawson and collect data.
A helicopter would be deployed from the Chinese ship Snow Dragon to ferry groups of 12 from the sea ice to safety.
Simultaneously, a barge would be sent from the Australian vessel Aurora Australia to collect groups of 22 from the Chinese ship.
This should be even more fun once the squabble over who pays for this fiasco ensues.
