Well, we guess the alleged testimony of a so-called “conservative Republican puts this Obama scandal to bed, huh? This guy who’s been defending the IRS and obfuscating during hearings can be trusted, right?
The top Democrat on the House’s watchdog committee says a self-described “conservative Republican” has told investigators that no one at the White House directed the Internal Revenue Service to target tea party groups.
Michigan Rep. Elijah Cummings Sunday released a transcript online Sunday of the House Oversight Committee investigators’ conversation with a manager from the IRS’ Cincinnati office. During that interview, the unidentified manager said he was unaware of any political motivation in giving extra scrutiny to tea party groups’ applications for tax exempt status.
The manager was interviewed Thursday and says workers in Cincinnati instigated the applications’ reviews. The manager says he has no indication of White House involvement.
As if they’d leave a direct paper trail leading to Obama. Fact is we still have no idea who ordered the targeting and until we do Congress needs to push this. It’s not going away until we know who instigated this. Cummings, meanwhile, wants to release transcripts, despite not having any authority to do so.
Cummings said he was giving Issa one week to comply with his request before he pushed to release them himself.
“I will talk to the chairman again. I’ve written and begged him to release the transcripts. I want them released,” Cummings said.
“The only thing I would say is I do want redactions of names of some people who are IRS employees but other than that I think every syllable to be released and I can tell you I’m willing to come on your show next week with the chairman with the transcripts next week.
“But if he doesn’t, I’ll release them next week,” Cummings vowed.
So he wants to illegally release transcripts, but without the names of IRS employees. Transparency! This lame tactic isn’t going over well.
The case is solved, huh?
“Based on everything I’ve seen, the case is solved,” said Cummings in response to a question on the topic. “And if it were me, I would wrap this case up and move on.”
Move along, nothing to see here!
