We’re not sure how much more of this civility we can take.
“The only phrase that describes it is political terrorism,” Gore said at the launch of the Brookings Institution’s Center for Effective Public Management in Washington. “Why does partisanship have anything to do with such a despicable and dishonorable threat to the integrity of the United States of America?”
Gore said that the effort among some Republicans in the House and Senate to demand that Congress defund Obamacare in order to approve funding for the government “cannot be allowed.”
Gore noted that those lawmakers want to undo a law that was passed by Congress and upheld by the Supreme Court.
“And now you want to threaten to not only shut down our government but to blow up the world economy unless we go back and undo what we did according to the processes of this democracy?” Gore asked. “How dare you?”
He urged attendees to challenge denial of climate change in conversations in families and communities and elsewhere. “We can win this conversation and winning a conversation can make all the difference,” Gore said. “Don’t let denial go unchallenged.”
Gore noted how racism and later homophobia have become increasingly unacceptable.
So if you disagree with his junk science, you’re the same as a racist homophobe. Swell. You know who should also be challenged? Charlatans who prey on the gullible to enrich themselves. This as he and his climate change fanatics fall into further disrepute. If you think Gore represents the lunatic fringe of the Democratic Party, well, you’re right.
Senior White House Adviser Dan Pfeiffercompared House Republicans to suicide bombers, kidnappers and arsonists in an interview with CNN. Pfeiffer, the former White House communications director who was promoted to the senior spot after the 2012 election, explained President Obama’s unwillingness to compromise on his call for an unconditional increase in the federal debt limit: “What we’re not for is negotiating with people with a bomb strapped to their chest.” He also called Republican counterproposals “ransom demands” adding, “It’s not a negotiation if I show up at your house and say, ‘Give me everything inside or I’m going to burn it down.’”
Sure, we can work with these people.
