CNN Poll: Support for So-Called Gun Control Slips in Past Month

How can this be when it’s become the latest obsession for Democrats and the media? Is it people see through the charade? Have people become skeptical about a group of people long soft on crime who now pretend they care about the children?

The poll’s Wednesday release comes a few hours after the president proposed background checks on all gun sales and bans on military style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines as part of a package of steps to reduce gun violence in the wake last month’s massacre, where a suicidal gunman killed 26 people, including 20 children at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

According to the survey, 56% support a ban on semi-automatic guns, but that’s down from 62% in a CNN poll taken in the days after the shooting at Sandy Hook. The same is true for a ban on high-capacity ammunition clips – 62% in December, down to 58% now – as well as a requirement for all gun owners to register their firearms with the local government – 78% last month, down to 69% now.

This is why the gun grabbers are so eager to act while people are thinking about the issue emotionally. They realize the public will not support them once they think things though logically. More also understand that these same folks have been notoriously soft on crime but are eagerly trying to demonize and criminalize the law abiding. It will not work.

Support for banning semi-automatic weapons and large magazines has always been pretty soft.
More important is this: you could have 67% support for raising the voting age to 21 or 35 but you could only raise it with a Constitutional amendment. You could have 85% support for requiring all cars be painted blue and have a 1200cc 4-cylinder engine and it wouldn’t be right to pass such a law.
It is good news that the post-Sandy-Hook surge of support for “do anything!” is fading somewhat.

Rope a dope? The mainstream media is very good at trying to take those who are pro II Amendment off guard so they relax. Stay alert. Keep the pressure on your local and federal represenatives. Just saying….

the senate hasn’t passed a budget in three years…not worried about weapons ban or magazine restriction…obama thinks he’s a king, but his crown is imaginary. can we please list every democrat’s status as to gun ownership and the weapons they own? also, do they have a personal armed security staff? would be nice to have that on the public record.
