Chicagoland: Three Dead, 14 Wounded in Saturday Shootings; Obama Yuks It Up Golfing With Larry David

We’re sure Rahm Emanuel will brief Obama on the carnage he missed this week while golfing on Martha’s Vineyard.

Shootings left three men dead and at least 14 others wounded from early Saturday afternoon to early morning Sunday, according to authorities.

In the most recent shooting, at 4:35 a.m. Sunday morning, a man was killed and three women shot near the intersections of Springfield and Wilcox avenues in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

The man, 24, was dead on arrival at Mount Sinai Hospital after suffering a shot to the chest, police said. One of the women, 21, was in serious-to-critical condition at Mt. Sinai after being shot in the chest and back. Another woman, 23, had her condition stabilized at Mount Sinai after being shot in both feet, and the third woman, 20, suffered a graze wound and refused transport to a hospital.

Additional details about the circumstances surrounding that shooting weren’t immediately available.

In the first shooting death of the night, two men were shot, one fatally, about 11:30 p.m. Saturday in the 0-100 block of South Parkside Avenue in the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side, less than a block from the Austin District police station.

The dead man, 18, fell in an alley trying to escape after being shot. He died there. The other man, also 18, was shot in the side and taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County.

You know who’d be 18 now? Trayvon Martin. But nobody cares about these kids since they’re not politically useful. Meanwhile, Barack Obama hit the links with comedian Larry David Saturday.

President Obama hit the links Saturday with comedian Larry David, the star of HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, as his weeklong vacation in Martha’s Vineyard comes to a close.

The president rounded out his foursome with former U.S. trade representative Ron Kirk and businessman Glenn Hutchins, a part owner of the Boston Celtics basketball team.

Obama has spent much of his vacation golfing, including a five-hour round to kick off his stay, in which David, designer Kenneth Cole, filmmaker Peter Farrelly and restaurateur Patrick Lyons made up the foursome in front of the president, the Boston Globe reports.

Fresh off his lavish vacation, Obama will resume his class warfare tour this week.
