It’s a real banner day for the corrupt Democratic Senator from New Jersey. Reeling from his scandals involving an illegal alien sex offender intern in his office and fresh developments involving his dalliances with underage Dominican prostitutes, it’s now being reported that the brother of one of Bob Menendez’s major donors has pleaded guilty to making illegal donations to his campaign.
At what point do Democrats tire of such corruption and give this guy the boot?
An Elmwood Park man pleaded guilty Tuesday to conspiring to make illegal campaign contributions to U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez on behalf of his politically-connected brother.
Benedetto Bigica, 45, admitted in Newark federal court that he and his brother, Franklin Lakes resident Joseph Bigica, steered $21,400 in illegal contributions to “the campaign committee of a federal candidate,” U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman said Tuesday.
The Bigicas were frequent donors to Menendez’s campaign, and Joseph Bigica pleaded guilty in May of last year to funneling more than $100,000 into the Senator’s campaign coffers. The Star-Ledger reported at the time that Joseph Bigica was a politically connected insurance broker who had received millions of dollars in no-bid municipal contracts in northern New Jersey.
His brother admitted Tuesday to conspiring to serve as a straw contributor to Menendez’s campaign along with two other members of his family who were later reimbursed by Joseph Bigica. The donations were made between 2005 and 2008, authorities said.
Joseph Bigica was sentenced in December to 60 months in prison and ordered to pay $2,141,836 in restitution. Benedetto Bigica faces five years in prison and up to a $250,000 fine, Fishman said.
So what penalty does Menendez pay for raking in all this illegal money?
