State police are investigating the source of a noose found hanging in Berkshire Hall at the town’s Brodie Park on Monday morning.
The noose was found hanging from the back of the men’s restroom door, said Dennis Minor, the town’s recreation director.
Minor, who is black, launched an independent campaign for first selectman Saturday at Brodie Park. Police have not yet determined why the noose was left at the park.
Minor said he was at town hall when he got a call from an employee about the noose. As he headed to Brodie Park, he notified town police Officer Dan Janco, who notified state police.
“They both took it from there,” Minor said, referring to police. Berkshire Hall is the main building at Brodie Park.
Asked if he thought the noose was intended for him, Minor said he did not know.
“I think this is a great town,” Minor said. “If somebody had a bad day and felt like they needed to string up a noose, I feel sorry for them. This is a great town. I have nothing but great things to say about the Town of New Hartford.”
Authorities are supposedly reviewing video surveillance cameras. If so, this should be an open and shut case already.
