They’re playing from the same old playbook today. Even Chuck Todd tried to talk him off the ledge.

Could be he’s just totally incompetent and was rejected by the American people. Meanwhile, everyone’s favorite 700-pound filmmaker offers this.

Are they running this line by the press because they know they’re losing?

Or are they running it just to be on the safe side in a close election?

If Obama loses, then he is not President. Whatever reason butthurt Dems then wish to ascribe his loss to is immaterial. It’s like when we are enjoined not to act in a given way because it will ‘make martyrs’. Martyrs all share one salient feature: they are dead. We can worry about the small stuff after we’ve given them the chop. Likewise, for all the shrieking about Bush/Gore in 2000, the GOP held the White House for eight years. It’s not like it delegitimised Bush in the eyes of anyone who might otherwise have been disposed to view him favourably. It will be the same if Romney wins: there will not be anyone who changes his mind no matter how loud a banshee wail Howard Dean lets out.
