The Endless Campaign: Obama to Launch Tax Hike PR Blitz

Barack Obama

He cannot govern, so he must divide and conquer.  Nice to know that “millionaires and billionaires” and now anyone scratching out more than $250K a year.

The campaign never ends.

President Obama today is launching a new p.r. campaign to rally popular support behind his push to raise tax rates on the rich – the cornerstone of his plan to avoid the so-called fiscal cliff that is set to wreck the economy Jan. 1.

Obama’s tax-the-rich scheme also is the chief obstacle to a deal with Republicans to stop the fiscal cliff, when massive tax increases hit nearly every American and huge government spending cuts take effect automatically.

Obama will tout his plan by hosting White House events with small business leaders today and with middle-class Americans tomorrow.

He’ll cap the week Friday with a campaign-style tour of a manufacturing business in Pennsylvania.

Obama has vowed to hang tough for his plan to raise taxes on the rich, despite stiff Republican opposition.

“The president has made clear that he will not sign a bill that extends the Bush-era tax cuts for those making more than $250,000. That is a firm position,” declared White House Press Secretary Jay Carney.

Jacking up taxes won’t do a damn thing to get us out of Obama’s mess, but what does he care? If it doesn’t work Republicans will get the blame anyway. We suppose meeting with elected Republicans would make sense, but why do that when you can trot out some human props?

We do need more revenue to deal with our deficit, along with spending restraint. But higher tax rates will result in lower revenue and all of our elected leadership should know this. Even Obama’s most optimistic projections related to tax rate hikes fill only a teeny bit of the hole that he digs deeper every year and his optimism will collide with reality when the higher rates reduce revenues.
The thing is, we can only get more revenue from an expanding economy. We can only get an expanding economy if we quit choking and shackling the producers. That will make them richer, though, so Obama prefers to starve the geese that lay the eggs, then blame them for laying fewer eggs.
Obama epitomizes the moochers and looters of Atlas Shrugged. His rhetoric is just like the “exaggerations” in the novel.
