Two people were wounded as two groups of people shot at each other just west of the United Center late Friday night, according to police.
One group of people was walking south of Washington Boulevard on Damen Avenue, on the west side of the street, and yelling at a group of people on the northwest corner of the same intersection.
Someone from the group south of Washington started shooting and the group on the other side of the street scattered north.
When police arrived, they found a 25-year-old woman on the west side of the street near some weeds growing through concrete with a gunshot wound to the leg. A man, 23, was also shot in the leg.
Someone from the group north of Washington Boulevard returned fire but didn’t hit anybody, and police recovered casings on the east side of Damen Avenue from that group.
The two were among at least seven people shot in the city Friday night and Saturday morning.
Telissia’s grandmother, Loretta Wesley, 55, said she couldn’t believe what happened.
“She’s such a good child, very sweet,” the grandmother said. “She didn’t deserve this. She was just an innocent bystander, coming home from school. Why my granddaughter? This is getting just so crazy.”
Indeed, it is crazy.
Meanwhile, miraculously only seven people have died from the effects of Hurricane Isaas. Remember all the calls for the OP to shut down their convention in anticipation of Isaac? Why isn’t anyone calling for the Democrats to cancel their Obama coronation in the wake of the violence in his hometown?
Instead of playing follow the leader and going to Louisiana three days after Mitt Romney, why doesn’t Obama go home and plead for his supporters to increase the peace?
You know what would be a masterful PR move by Romney? Hold a presser in Chicago decrying the endless violence with former Obama supporter Artur Davis while Mayor Rahm Emanuel is speaking at the DNC. Of course the mere mention of Chicago is racist, but what the heck?
