It may seem to be a local issue, but this is smart for Mitt Romney to weigh in on these selfish teachers in Chicago. A nice jab to the face of Rahm Emanuel wouldn’t hurt.
Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney says Chicago teachers are turning their backs on thousands of students and President Barack Obama is siding with the striking teachers.
Romney, in a statement released Monday hours before he was set to land in Chicago for fundraisers, says he is disappointed by the Chicago teachers’ decision to walk out of negotiations. Romney says he sides with parents and students over unionized teachers.
These spoiled union slobs already rake in an average of $71,000 a year with benefits and want a 30% increase. With 23 million out of work in this country I’m sure you could find more than enough qualified replacements who’d work for far less, even in the hellhole that’s Chicago.
Here’s a clip of the union president from last year. She’s quite the charmer (via John E.).
“I am disappointed by the decision of the Chicago Teachers Union to turn its back on not only a city negotiating in good faith but also the hundreds of thousands of children relying on the city’s public schools to provide them a safe place to receive a strong education. Teachers unions have too often made plain that their interests conflict with those of our children, and today we are seeing one of the clearest examples yet. President Obama has chosen his side in this fight, sending his Vice President last year to assure the nation’s largest teachers union that ‘you should have no doubt about my affection for you and the President’s commitment to you.’ I choose to side with the parents and students depending on public schools to give them the skills to succeed, and my plan for education reform will do exactly that.”
President Empty Chair, through a spokesthing, votes present.
“Playing political games with local disputes won’t help educate our kids, nor will fewer teachers.”
Way to man up, Barry. He “cares” about the children, but he cares even more for his thug union pals.
