Geez, nine days after the guy told the truth on “Meet the Press” and Team Obama is still making Cory Booker dance for them? Now Team Obama has even escalated their War on Women by forcing a single mom out of work. For shame.
Anne Torres, the communications director for Newark Mayor Cory Booker and part of his inner circle for six years, may have been forced out of her post in attempt to make a scapegoat for the Mayor’s controversial statements on “Meet the Press” earlier this month, a source familiar with City Hall personnel decisions said.
Torres, 29, confirmed her departure in a brief interview with The Star-Ledger this morning, but gave little reason for her resignation. A Newark native and single mother who has worked in City Hall since 2006, Torres said she plans to take a vacation and spend more time with her 8-year-old daughter.
“I just decided it is best if I pursued other opportunities,” Torres said by phone. “We have very different views on how communications should be run.”
The source of the split seems to be Booker’s May 20 appearance on “Meet The Press,” when he said he was “nauseated” by President Obama’s attack ads against Mitt Romney, his presumed opponent this November. The gaffe led to Booker’s headshot appearing next to GOP logos and press releases, and ended with Booker conducting an extended mea culpa on YouTube and MSNBC to cement his role as an Obama campaign surrogate.
Several people in Booker’s inner circle told him that blame laid with Torres, which led to her resignation today, the source said. Torres was not consulted about the “nauseated” remark, or of Booker’s decision to take to YouTube to clarify his message, according to the source, who said Booker had 32 pages of talking points designed to keep him in line with Obama’s message during the “Meet the Press” appearance.
Thirty-two pages and he couldn’t even find anything to support.
