Mike Bloomberg Now Campaigning for Tax Hikes … in California

It’s not enough for Mr. Salty to butt into the business of states with reasonable gun laws. Now he’s heading to California to urge the nearly-bankrupt state to jack up taxes on smokers, because they’re evil people or something and deserve no mercy.

Mayor Bloomberg is taking on the tobacco industry again — only this time, in California.

Reaching across the country, the mayor yesterday pledged up to $500,000 to support a June 5 referendum to increase California’s tax on a pack of cigarettes from $1 to $1.87.

The mayor said he was putting up the money to help counter a $40 million ad campaign by tobacco companies to defeat the measure, Proposition 29.

“It’s time to level the playing field,” Bloomberg said.

How about concerning yourself with what goes on in your jurisdiction, Little Mikey?

Because Nanny Bloomberg is concerned with tax revenue here, not the health of the citizens.

I wish Walker and Daniels would come here and speak for fiscal sobriety. Somebody has to, and nobody’s doing it in CA!

The word “jackhole” was probably coined years before Bloomberg was a glint in his father’s eye, but it’s full connotation wasn’t really known until Bloomberg became the NYC Mayor.

He trying to get some of the rich he drove out of Manhattan to move back. Best bet for him is to promote tax “fairness” elsewhere.

There are many Californians who think it wasn’t the illegal aliens who wrecked California but the New Yorkers who live here and whine and complain about Los Angeles, how they stole the Dodgers from Brooklyn, and about the Freeways. When we hear those complaints, we wish they would either go back to their glorious, wonderful New York or just shut up. This proposition he is promoting on the ballot is about the dumbest thing I’ve seen and that’s saying something.

At some point, the Health NAZI craze will pass. Though I haven’t had a smoke in several years, I look forward to celebrating with a cigarette and a brandy in the main concourse of Grand Central Station.

When Mayor Mike raised the NYC cig tax by an unprecedented 1800% the city’s small retailers lost $250 million a year in revenue-and a huge black market was created that exists until this day. The huge loss of income to the largely Hispanic bodegas was described by Bloomberg as, “a minor economic issue.”

Even if it’s a good idea to jack up taxes on smokers, cancer research is WAY down the list of things California needs to do. Of course, the sponsors are cancer researchers.
