Liam Neeson May Convert to Islam

Hey, all power to him, I guess. Let’s just hope he doesn’t turn into another Cat Stevens. Just don’t complain when your fans abandon you, OK?

Hollywood star Liam Neeson is considering giving up his Roman Catholic beliefs and becoming a Muslim.

The actor, 59, admitted that Islamic prayer “got into his spirit” while filming in Istanbul.

He told The Sun, “The call to prayer happens five times a day, and for the first week, it drives you crazy, and then it just gets into your spirit, and it’s the most beautiful, beautiful thing.”

He added, “There are 4,000 mosques in the city. Some are just stunning, and it really makes me think about becoming a Muslim.”

Neeson was raised in Northern Ireland as a devout Roman Catholic and was named after the local priest.

But the star — whose wife, Natasha Richardson, died aged 45 in a skiing accident in 2009 — has spoken about challenges to his faith.

He said, “I was reared a Catholic, but I think every day we ask ourselves, not consciously, what are we doing on this planet? What’s it all about? I’m constantly reading books on God or the absence of God and atheism.”

Ask yourself what Islamists are doing on this planet. A lot more damage than Catholics, that’s for sure.

My memory is fuzzy has hell, but didn’t he star in a movie(Taken) about Muslim(Albanian) sex traffickers?

Funniest moment I had in Istanbul: the tour had just gotten there, late in the evening. We had left Brindisi, Italy, at 4am that morning, driven to Rome, flown to Istanbul and driven through rush hour traffic to get to our hotel. A few of us set out to find something to eat, and ended up in a hotel roof-top restaurant.

The restaurant was playing Bob Marley music over their sound system. Normally this would just be one of those “small world, isn’t it?” moments, but Marley was a Rastafarian, and when he’s talking about “he is god” and all that, he’s talking about Haeli Salassi (sp. def. mangled).

Then the call to prayer started…

As for Neeson — meh. He should know that there are 4,000 mosques in Istanbul because the government pays for them.

Funny. I don’t see anywhere in the article where he says he may convert to Islam.

Sounds like another Catholic who’s all about the ritual and trappings, and not much for the actual beliefs. Thus the appeal of the Muslim call to prayer and the architecture of the mosques. Who cares what they believe, their songs and buildings are pretty! He’ll make a good Muslim, for sure.

His wife may object to suddenly becoming a second-class citizen and a subject to him when he adopts a shria-compliant lifestyle.
    Oh?… Nevermind.

    Line from Caddyshack:
“You know, I’ve often thought of becoming a golf club”. It makes about as much sense. Because if you look at the roles his late wife played, Muslims would be all about ’em. Can’t wait to hear him cozying up to the ‘Gays are wonderful’ crowd in Hollywood. ‘Cause supposedly there’s only one brand of Catholicism, but for him they’ll invent a Moslem-lite, that does spots on Ellen and adoption PSAs with Rosie. But will have Rushdie killed on sight.

Liam-al Neehommad stars in ‘Babe III”. With halal popcorn.Cannot. Wait.

Why be shocked. There were moronic Americans, some female, who converted after learning about Islamic beliefs following 9/11. Oh, not real Islamic beliefs that they actually practice in Islamic countries but the comic book ones that our leaders tell us is actual islam.

“I’m constantly reading books on God or the absence of God and atheism.”

Best get that out of your system before your ritual. After that, it will be severely frowned upon in your new establishment.

This, from the man who provides the voice of Aslan from “The Chronicles of Narnia.” Did that role not, as he describes it, “get into his spirit”?

  12. theprocinctu on 25/25/12 at 1:24 pm

Stunning as in similar to architecture of the byzantine churches……. wonder why that is… although legally having a 9 year old replacement wife might be cool, i guess….

Apparantly he was lyin’ the whole time.

You’d think a devout Roman Catholic would know about the Liturgy of the Hours, on which the Muslim practice of praying five times a day is based.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liturgy_of_the_Hours

And, of course, Catholics picked up the practice from the Jews, which Islamists would no doubt find _interesting_.

  15. Sarah on 25/25/12 at 4:00 pm

I think this questioning of faith, and all of the movie roles he’s taken since 2009 have more to do with his wife’s sudden death than any rational thinking. He needs prayer.

  16. Heartlander on 25/25/12 at 5:55 pm

Catholic monks and those in solidarity with them pray seven times a day — just as the Jews of Jesus’ day did. It’s called the Liturgy of the Hours, and it’s very rich and beautiful. Too bad Neeson’s probably never heard of it.

In fact, up until not very long ago in the big scheme of things, every town in Christendom rang the Angelus bell three times a day, and everyone stopped for prayer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angelus

As for the “stunning mosques,” hasn’t Neeson ever visited any of the hundreds of stunning Catholic cathedrals?

Neeson, like all of us, has had the misfortune to grow up in a radically secularized West. In the old days, the Christian, incarnational, mystical, miracle-embracing worldview permeated the culture.

  17. Robert on 25/25/12 at 8:51 pm

Bunch of balogney. All he was doing was saying was he learned to appreciate the call to prayer and that he thought mosques were pretty. He’s also, apparently, reading books on atheism. Is he gonna be an atheist as well? A moooosleeem atheist. He can write the book on it!

Nothing to see here, folks, move along.

I would never see another movie. Hell Danny Glover ruined the Lethal Weapon series for me…

  20. Elixelx on 26/26/12 at 5:19 am

Not to worry Liam; Islam is “Like a Virgin”: first it pisses you off, then you practice it; and then you blast the MP3 player (read “imam”) to smithereens…
Well, anyway; that’s what a sane person would do!

  21. Sue on 26/26/12 at 10:22 am

Think all the negative comments towards Liam go to support why he is no longer willing to stay within the big got brigades.

Each to their own, good on u Liam.

  22. J.J. Sefton on 26/26/12 at 8:23 pm

I was in Istanbul just after the Mavi Marmara incident and the only thing that got into me was the chills with the overt Israel- and Joo-hatred.

Well, what do you expect? Neeson’s “masher-tainer” is Vanessa Redgrave.

  23. Blue Hen on 26/26/12 at 9:56 pm

Think all the negative comments towards Liam go to support why he is no longer willing to stay within the big got brigades.

Yeah, ’cause everyone who made a negative comment identified themselves as being bigots.

Good on you Sue. Tell us how he is gonna sell Islam and its hatred of gays to his pals in Hollywood. Remember all the hate they had or the mean old Cath-o-lick church and the Mormons( but not for the Black churches and Islam) when Proposition 8 came out?
