Historic! Obama to Face Record Re-election Jobless Rate

Of course none of this is his fault as the New York Times helpfully notes. Here’s how it works: Anything that makesthe failed president look good he gets sole credit for (think bin Laden). Anything bad? Well, it’s dark, sinister forces beyond his control.

That, or it’s Bush’s fault.

One fallout from Friday’s poor jobs report: President Obama will almost surely have to win re-election with a record high unemployment rate for modern incumbents.

No president since the Great Depression has won re-election with a jobless rate higher than 7.4%, and the latest Labor Department report says the current rate has now ticked up to 8.2%

It’s hard to see that number falling 0.8% or more by the time the Nov. 6 election between Obama and Mitt Romney rolls around.

In this case, it’s the fault of Congress since the GOP controls the House. Funny, the Nancy Pelosi COngress that Obama had for two years doesn’t factor in.

“We have two policies sitting on the desk of Congress right now that they could act on to put teachers back to work and put construction workers back to work rebuilding our roads, bridges and highways,” Cutter said.

I thought that was what the $900 billion stimulus was for? Where’d all that money go?

Oh, and just imagine how bleak his prospects would be if the media reported the actual unemployment rate.

Every time Obama gets hit by bad economic news, he finds something to blame it on. Bush, instability in the M.E., the Euro teetering on the edge of the abyss.

Remember how he also blamed, and for all I know still blames, bad economic news on the Japanese Tsunami.

I’ve always wondered about that. When he got the Dem nomination back in ’08, he said that was the moment when the rise of the ocean began to slow and the Earth began to heal.

So, how could there even be a Japanese Tsunami on his watch?

Maybe Jake Tapper can Carney that question for me.
