Hillary Clinton to Flee the Country During DNC

Obviously she wants to get away from the impending trainwreck. Let’s face it, if you still had political aspirations, would you want to be anywhere near these losers? And it’s not as if she’s hopping across the pond. She’s getting as far as humanly possible away from Charlotte.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will be overseas during the Democratic National Convention next week, according to reports on Wednesday.

She departs on Thursday and is scheduled to attend meetings and talks with officials in the Cook Islands, China, and the Russian city of Vladivostok as well as touring Asia. She will not return to the U.S. all next week, according to reports.

Naturally some spin is provided.

“As secretary of state, she is no longer engaged in retail politics, but she remains a keen observer,” State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley told Reuters.

Update: By the way, if you needed any idea how far she’ll go to avoid her fellow Democrats, have a look at the Cook Islands on the map.

As Secretary of State – like every Secretary of State before her – Clinton is disbarred from participating in the Convention.

    Duh.

As the brave knights from Monte Python’s Search for the Holy Grail advise, “Run away, run away!” The best part of valor is knowing when to retreat, yes?

  3. ib1netmon on 29/29/12 at 10:16 am

First of all, beau, it would be ‘barred’ from attending, not ‘disbarred’, ‘disbarred’ is what the Obama’s are, lawyers who have list their license to practice.

Secondly, what’chu smokin? Can I have some?

I’ve often wondered if Hillary is spending so much time out of the country because Barack wants to keep her out of the public’s eye … proving that he is still afraid of a Clinton comeback.

  5. Marge Gunderson on 29/29/12 at 10:33 am

Oh for Pete’s sake, she’s fleeing the interview! She’s fleeing the interview!

My theory is that Barack Obama is going to declare that “he needs to spend more time with his family”, or some such thing, and the DNC is going to draft Hillary at the convention. Obvioiusly, she wants to be as far away as possible when this happens, so there are no fingerprints on Obama’s back when he is pushed.

Then we can be treated to constant converage as Hillary makes her way back to the United States, kind of like when young Princess Elizabeth made her way back to London from Kenya following the death of George VI.

Hillary Clinton is about as inept a Secretary of State as was Madeline NotsoBright. Now that I think of it, though I’m a Republican Condoleza Rice wasn’t much of a SecState.

Why is she leaving the country? Perhaps it is because she doesn’t want to be asked or pushed to replace Joe Biden.

  8. Steve White on 29/29/12 at 11:28 am

No one will ever consider Hillary to be the second coming of John Foster Dulles.

I’m not aware of a law barring Cabinet officials from participating in a political convention; perhaps Beau Heau could point to one. I think it’s more of a tradition, one that I think is right and proper.

The only problem is that this is so transparent. If she were to go to Turkey and meet with the rebel Syrian groups, or to Egypt to meet with Mr. Mursi, or to Europe to meet with the central bankers, etc., one could easily explain (spin) that as dealing with the pressing issues of the day.

But the Cook Islands? Other than distance and gorgeous sand, what business does the Secretary of State have there?

Unless the idea is to make sure all the Democrats KNOW that she’s deliberately staying away from Charlotte, of course.

  9. lester on 29/29/12 at 11:30 am

I’m trying to figure out if the Cook Islands the the farthest place from Charlotte on planet earth or not?

    John Bolton SecState!!!

  10. lester on 29/29/12 at 11:33 am

Haiku, I think you are correct. But it will be about the money. At some point Obama has to figure out he could loose. He will have at least $100M in the bank. If he quits that money goes with the candidate.

The other option is to continue. Take the risk of spending all that money in a loosing effort. The big problem for him is Moochelle. If he looses all that money and has nothing to show for it Moochelle cuts off his…well does a Rev. Jackson on him.

    TO: All
    RE: Here’s a Thought

Maybe Hillary is avoiding the DNC because she doesn’t want to be accused of stealing the candidacy from Obama.

Considering how Obama is faring of late, I believe there is a chance that some Democrats wish Hillary would be the candidate for 2012. Her presence there could support such a move.

Likewise, her absence there, should such a move occur, would make her look gallant should she have to return in order to accept the nomination.

The probability is low for this sort of action, but it would be a great ‘game changer’ for the Democrats in light of how the Obama-Biden team has been performing of late.

    Regards,

    Chuck(le)

Yeah, the ultra respect for law and stuff that is the hallmark of Democrats in general and the Clintons in particular is keeping her from being in the same time zone as the Democrat convention. That’ll fly. So will will Hilary.

  13. gunnar myrdal on 29/29/12 at 12:05 pm

As usual, Mrs. Clinton is the epitome of good manners and she is gracefully withdrawing from the hustle and bustle of the democrat convention so as to give them free reign to continue their message of truth, honesty, moral superiority and selfless serving of the common man and woman.

And, also, this clears the neighborhood for her husband, Mr. Clinton, to hit on as many desperate democrat convention women as he can find above a score of 3.25 on a range of 10. Good luck Mr. Clinton and say hello to Chelsea for us while you are there operating. Lets hope the convention does not coincide with one of Mr. Clinton’s “eruption” periods is his medical condition.

  14. ny nick on 29/29/12 at 12:18 pm

Condi did not attend the 2004 convention when she was Secretary of State. Make of that what you will.

Only one Real reason I can think of for Anyone to go to the Cook Islands: Private Trust account review and maintenance. Good place to stash cash that’s hard for others to get to from US Courts. Time for her to check on the family bank accounts.

  16. Blue Hen on 29/29/12 at 1:24 pm

Geepers. Maybe she’s off getting an accurate translation for the reset button. That’d be nice.

Are all of you millionaires, or are you just stupid?

What does the Republican party have to offer any of you if you are not already rich?

Not rich yet? Better learn to love poor.

  18. msq on 29/29/12 at 2:43 pm

Hey Andrew, Yes I want frys with my burger, and dont screw up my order or Ill tell the clown.

  19. uberbrooklyn on 29/29/12 at 3:28 pm

No fan of Hillary, but the first commentor is correct. The SecState is legally required to not be actively involved in campaigning and party politics. It has been that way for a long time.
That explains Condoleeza Rice’s absence in 2004.
Since she can’t participate, getting as far away as possible from seeing the man she and her hubby despise having adulation heaped upon him from the very Party that rejected her, must seem like a good idea.

OT: I wonder when Mitt will announce that he will be a dollar-a-year man if elected President? I put my money on his acceptance speech.

Are all of you millionaires, or are you just stupid?

This seems limiting. Obama is now a millionaire, and he’s stupid. Proof that in America, you can be both.

    Any other gems for us?

  21. Steve on 29/29/12 at 4:06 pm

Could it be she wants to be far away when the fake assassination of Obama is staged? Perhaps to give her an alibi?

  22. uberbrooklyn on 29/29/12 at 4:38 pm

And, Blue Hen, Andrew proves that you don’t have to be a millionaire to be stupid.

  23. Vic Kelley on 29/29/12 at 7:15 pm

Time has not been gentle or merciful to Mrs. Clinton’s appearance. When she was first lady of Arkansas she was bangable, or maybe even hot. Now, ugh.

You gotta know that Obama wishes she’d remain thousands of miles, or kilometers, away forever. Same goes for Joe “Shuffles” Biden.

  24. Dan W. on 29/29/12 at 7:32 pm

@ comment 24. I agree, although the legal part of it is murky, obscure. Mr. Clinton is on the schedule, and his job is to promote the brand. The democrat brand. The obama personality is the leader of this brand in this election cycle, like it or not. I’ll tell you right now that the clinton sub- category is still stronger with the democrat base than the obama subset is. Much bigger smoke. It doesn’t much matter where the wife is, since we all know that ‘She is available when the Nation needs Her’. Look for drama, cheap drama, in the approach to the dem convention. Which way the story turns, and which way the money flows will indicate the near future of this corrupt, decrepit party.

  25. uberbrooklyn on 30/30/12 at 2:22 am

Mr. Clinton is on the schedule because BHO has no other place to turn. And you can bet that WJC has exacted his pound of flesh for his services, although, in retrospect he may have bargained for about 220 lbs of flesh evenly divided between buxom twin cheerleaders as payment.
Better than being paid in Euros.
