Great News: Obama’s “Affordable” Green Light Bulb Costs Only $50

Barack Obama

Affordable if you’re one of Obama’s fat-cat one-percenters. The rest of us will be left to fend for ourselves in the dark.

The U.S. government last year announced a $10 million award, dubbed the “L Prize,” for any manufacturer that could create a “green” but affordable light bulb.

Energy Secretary Steven Chu said the prize would spur industry to offer the costly bulbs, known as LEDs, at prices “affordable for American families.” There was also a “Buy America” component. Portions of the bulb would have to be made in the United States.

Now the winning bulb is on the market.

The price is $50.

Retailers said the bulb, made by Philips, is likely to be too pricey to have broad appeal. Similar LED bulbs are less than half the cost.

“I don’t want to say it’s exorbitant, but if a customer is only looking at the price, they could come to that conclusion,” said Brad Paulsen, merchant for the light-bulb category at Home Depot, the largest U.S. seller of light bulbs. “This is a Cadillac product, and that’s why you have a premium on it.”

How the expensive bulb won a $10 million government prize meant to foster energy-efficient affordability is one of the curiosities that arise as the country undergoes a massive, mandated turnover from traditional incandescent lamps to more energy-efficient ones.

We can’t afford four more years of this nonsense, let alone light bulbs.

Wait. This is the winner of the affordability contest? What was the losing entry? Don’t tell me.

For God’s sake. Why don’t we just light candles with $50 bills, instead? Then we wouldn’t have to scream and pull our hair when the damn light bulb blows.

Just when I think these assholes can’t get any more ridiculous they top themselves. I’m stunned that they keep coming up with crap like this. Is it insanity or just plain stupidity?

    Ten dollar light bulbs
Cars no one wants to drive, let alone buy.
A justice department that is openly racist.
A foreign policy that shits on our friends and rewards foes.
An economic policy that guarantees bankruptcy for the USA.

I could go on for days but until we get rid of the Pantload In Chief we are pissing into the wind. This man and ALL of his stooges have got to go in November or we can all kiss the dream that was once America goodbye.

This contest was started in 2007. So now that you have to assign the blame/credit to someone else, do you like it any better?

Most of the replies on here are downright laughable. The rest are just wrong. Obama is waging a courageous fight to try and decrease our dependence on foreign energy and fossil fuels. Just think if he is successful. That will shut a lot of people up who post here. Or not.
