Now this is how to stand up to these lunatics. These folks have already been firebombed by Islamist nutcases and now they’re basically saying fuck you and poking them in the eye again.
Just imagine if we had media in this country with such balls, not to mention our so-called leadership in Washington. Instead, they quiver and tremble in fear.
Fears that a wave of anger in the Islamic world could spread to France mounted on Tuesday as it emerged that Charlie Hebdo, a satirical magazine was planning to publish cartoons caricaturing the Prophet Mohammed.
The magazine confirmed that its latest edition contains several cartoons featuring Mohammed that the publication’s editor said would “shock those who will want to be shocked.”
The magazine is due to hit the stands on Wednesday against a background of protests across the Islamic world over a crude US-made film that mocks Mohammed and portrays Muslims as gratuitously violent.
At least 30 people have died so far in demonstrations held in over 20 countries.
Charlie Hebdo is no stranger to controversy over its handling of the issues relating to Islam.
Last year it published an edition “guest-edited” by the Prophet Mohammed that it called Sharia Hebdo. The magazine’s offices in Paris were subsequently firebombed in what was widely seen as a reaction by Islamists.
Who thought we’d ever see the day when some French satirists showed more guts than the American government. How far we’ve fallen.
Update: OK, now the new cartoons are published and French authorities have apparently taken their Obama pills.
France has temporarily closed its embassies and schools in 20 countries after a satirical magazine in Paris published insulting cartoons of the Muslim prophet Muhammad, a move it fears will add “fuel to the fire” of global tensions over an anti-Islam film.
“We have indeed decided as a precautionary measure to close our premises, embassies, consulates, cultural centers and schools,” a Foreign Ministry spokesman told Reuters.
Riot police were also sent to the offices of the weekly magazine, Charlie Hebdo.
Riot police. Over cartoons.
This guy contradicts what everyone can see.
“This is a disgraceful and hateful, useless and stupid provocation,” Dalil Boubakeur, rector of the Grand Paris Mosque, told The Associated Press. “We are not like animals of Pavlov to react at each insult.”
So he doesn’t react to every insult, especially those that are disgraceful, hateful, useless and stupid. Here’s another idiot who hasn’t quite grasped the concept of freedom of expression.
Khairreddene Chabbara disagreed. “We are for freedom of expression, but when it comes to religion it shouldn’t hurt the feelings of believers.”
Hurt our feelings and we’ll kill you! Such a sensitive bunch.
