Cowardice: Smug Journal-News Editor Deletes Facebook Page, Hides Tweets

Posted by on Dec 26, 2012 at 12:21 pm

The folks here have been doing an awesome job exposing these Journal-News hacks who recently ambushed suburban New Yorkers by publishing the names of gun permit owners.

Reader “Jeff” sends along a link to the latest article in the White Plains tabloid, Journal-News, reporting on the hornets nest occasioned by their publication of an interactive map showing the identity and address of all registered gun owners in Westchester County and surrounding areas.

Editor Cyndee Royle defends her decision and in fact sounds quite smug about it. Let’s keep those cards and letters (and telephone calls, of course) coming.

Yes, she actually spells her name CynDee. So if you look to what was her Facebook link, it went bye-bye.

Then if you head over to Twitter, this arrogant twit  is actually protecting her tweets. If you’re a law-abiding gun owner all the bad guys now know where to find you, not to mention  your unprotected neighbors, but CynDee doesn’t even have the guts to comment publicly on Twitter. Talk about a lack of self-awareness.

Am I the only one to find it odd how few followers these media titans have? Here CynDeeeeeeee reminds us why gun owners no longer have rights in the eyes of Broooooce! fans.

“We knew publication of the database would be controversial but we felt sharing as much information as we could about gun ownership in our area was important in the aftermath of the Newtown shootings,” said CynDee Royle, Editor and Vice President/News.

People are concerned about who owns guns and how many of them there are in their neighborhoods. Our Freedom of Information request also sought specifics on how many and what types of weapons people owned. That portion of the request was denied.”

They’re now running scared, mired in a massive shitstorm of their own creation, too gutless to even engage an enraged public on social media outlets.

Be assured it won’t be long until they’re playing the victim.

She figured she’d cause a stir by doing the journalistic equivalent of flinging a big lump of poop into the fan. Unfortunately for her she was standing right in front of it.

  2. Mr. Royle on 26/26/12 at 1:25 pm

Sin-D, you are my “courageous” porn-star looking print media MILF! “Love” ya :)

Hey CynDee Royle: The first person whose home gets a visit from the “rent-it -mob”anti gun forces and/or non gun owner homes that are broken into for easy pickings based on’…sharing as much information as we could about gun ownership in our area was important…” places you’re banal ass in a courtroom that will cost you and you’re insipid publication lots of money.

  4. FullovManoor on 26/26/12 at 1:32 pm

Harassing really isn’t the answer. That will be over within a few weeks. It is the loss of circulation that will hurt the paper. It will not be recovered. And I guess a number of advertisers feel the same.

This was a stupid move by Ms Royle. In an era when newspapers have a limited life life expectancy. she has moved the day of reckoning up a bit.

  5. pamphleteer on 26/26/12 at 1:37 pm

So, if I’m a burglar or armed robber, I know which houses are safe for me to enter. Just do all the criminals a favor CynDee, can you tell them which ones have the big attack dogs? Then the criminals will be doubly safe.

Also, CynDee, did you know that you have exposed at least a half dozen women that were hiding from abusive spouses? Their blood will be on your hands if anything happens.

  6. zmortis on 26/26/12 at 1:41 pm

I just want to know for clarity whether SinDi’s own home and its firearm ownership status was listed in the data for complete disclosure. That would only be fair wouldn’t it? I suspect she may want to pick up a firearm now given the general outrage at her paper’s personal privacy violations by her community.

It’s a good thing that Journalism doesn’t require an I.Q. Test as an entrance exam – her job is safe (at least until the circulation hits zero, or to double-digits where it will match her I.Q.).

  8. tom swift on 26/26/12 at 1:54 pm

Firearms licensees and firearms owners are two different groups. Knowing about one tells you very little about the other.

  9. Bemis on 26/26/12 at 1:54 pm

When a concerned receptionist leaks a list of unstable, erratic local teens undergoing psychiatric treatment, or in rehab, will Cyndee publish the list? No, but using CynDee’s precedent, someone else will.

Would purloined lists of adults on anti-anxiety, or anti-depression medication, attending AA, and former SDS contributors also be of interest to CynDee’s readers? Yes, but she won’t publish them. But using her precedent, someone else will.

Good job Cyndee. You have shown that what was thought to be beyond the bounds of common sense and decency isn’t after all.

The first rule of newspaper editors is “Never apologize for doing a story.” They *might* issue a correction of some small fact or two, but the are LOATHE to admit that doing a story was stupid, or that the way the story was done was wrong.

I once was part of an effort that backed a local newspaper into a corner after they did a hit piece on a local school. Finally, after weeks of getting beaten up, the editor did a sorta-apology. Rumor had it that the editor was shunned at the local country club, and that’s what convinced her of the error of her ways.

Grandma, what big Foster Grants you have. We all know what big glasses means, don’t we folks?

  12. Shane on 26/26/12 at 2:27 pm

Good thing nobody actually buys newspapers anymore. If this was a shady attempt to get some publicity, I think it may not have the desired effect. I wonder how many subscribers woke up to find themselves swinging in the breeze? I’d be on the phone so fast–and have a laywer or six in tow.

Why would they publish names of lawful citizens? They mean to harass and intimidate those who would stand against their fascist dreams of a Utopian State. That’s why they did it. “The ends justify the means”, is all the justification people like CynDee need.

Of course, we all know the endgame for that type of thinking… once an irresistible political machine removes our ability to fight back against its oppressive fascist methods (of which CynDee dreams): cattle cars and and railways that dead end at smoke stacks, for the undesirables. Or some variation thereof.

  14. Max on 26/26/12 at 2:48 pm

Maybe someone should let the revenue stream (adverts) know what kind of poor judgement the rag has, I am sure I wouldn’t want to be associated with that controversy.

  15. Xiaoding on 26/26/12 at 3:51 pm

We owe her a big thank you. Even the idiots at the hunting clubs will see the error of even “reasonble” gun control now. NO information the government has is safe.

Gun owners have only themselves to blame. They too, have voted Democrat, and Rhino, all their lives.

  16. MarkD on 26/26/12 at 4:09 pm

It would only be fair to inform advertisers that one’s reputation precludes patronizing those who advertise in such a disreputable and underhanded medium.

Then follow through, for a month…

Exurban, try not to alienate Springsteen fans, (of which I am one), merely because Cyndee mentioned him.

I detest what Cyndee did, but veering off into a totally gratuitous mass alienation of people by slamming a great singer and a decent human being (even if he makes poor political choices), risks needless alienation of a lot of people. Or at the very least, suppresses the desire of many to see Cyndee as a really inconsiderate and annoying person. Do try to remember: Reagan…big tent… focus…

That’s an almost-perfect SWPL profile. If her chauffeured “business transportation” passed me on the street, she’d have “her driver” pull over to the other side. “White” Plains. Indeed.

If I wanted to make war on her, I’d gain access to that “Suite,” re-plumb all the hot to the right, and trip the GFCI’s. She’d be dead in two days. And the suffering would be horrible, too.

    Kum.Ba.Ya, yuppie scum. Brooooce!
Lawrence Welk was less old, white, and out-of-it.

Knuckleheads like this woman (?) don’t even have the simple awareness to recognize that stunts such as this are a Huge Disincentive to citizens who normally obey the law. Here in Illinois, our lovely but stupid Attorney General tried exactly this thing a year or so ago. Here, no permits of any kind are issued. Firearm owners must register their persons with the state, and they receive a Firearm Owner’s Identification Card. It’s a ‘shall issue’ card with a nominal statutory fee of $1 a year, good for 10 years. You must have this card if you own or have in your possession any guns or ammo, of any kind. The guns themselves are not registered, statewide, local ordinances may vary.
This brilliant lady (daughter of long time Speaker of the State House (D)) decided that The Public needed to know what Evil lurked in their midst, so she ordered that all FOID holders would have their names and addresses published, for all to know, right away. She was promptly sued by the State Police, which is under her authority, but also responsible for administering the program. I have not yet heard of the disposition of this case.
The Illinois State police has always been, in my opinion at least, one of the best agencies of its type on the planet. In this case, they won my real respect. Still, only a fool would apply for an Illinois FOID, unless their house is secured like a bank.

Just get together a list of all the advertisers on this papers website and send them boycott letters. This will be the only way to hit them were it hurts.Cevy, Toyota, USA Today, Eharmony, Career Builders are just a few.

  22. mike191 on 26/26/12 at 8:32 pm

Bemis, “theboss” is a terrible singer and person. The big tent analogy does not work with people like ; Pelosi, Reid,Obammmmma…ad nauseum. The question you should ask: what compromises are Dems willing to make with Republicans on any matter, Fiscal Cliff , “gun rights, spending vs. government cuts in programs…that this pathogen would even entertain in her tiny head. Moreover, “..suppresses the desire to see Cyndee..” is a pathetic patronizing approach that confirms you are a useless fool.

  23. Skid Marx on 26/26/12 at 9:16 pm

I forgot, in my silly focus on the topic, to mention that bru(uuuuu)ce is grossly overrated. In any category but political shill. Never cared much for his shit. Well produced, but not what I’d call music. 70’s ear stuffing.
Since iconography is this important, I’ll pursue my maple/ash SG project; Gibson’s the way to go. Played a Tele since I was 11, but who needs a stalinist promoting guitar anymore. Anti is better.

  24. Bemis on 26/26/12 at 9:36 pm

While you confirmed that some are always more interested in internecine fighting and side issues, and that ADHD seemingly is also adult affliction, I may have missed it: your lengthy, somewhat bitter opinions on several issues are relevant to this specific issue of Cyndee’s actions, and designed to garner support for the Forces of Good and Right….how?

Oh….and let me guess: you spent the last 10 years baying about gays getting married, and all manner of other items, while the states and federal government took us all in hock up to our ears. Right? Good use of your time do you think? Got lots of converts did it?

Q you should ask: what can YOU do to restore the GOP brand for frugality, and make common cause with sensible democrats who were as appalled as you should have been that GWB spent 8 years in office, 6 with a GOP majority, and failed to veto one spending bill; or provide for payment of the war costs; and added a medicare liability that was a real budget buster; and proposed Harriet Meirs as a USSC justice? What can you do to enlist Hispanics to the GOP cause, since they are not going away? What can you do to bring black back to the GOP since they voted fairly consistently for the GOP up to 1960? Big tent. Big issues. PS: Listen to some old springsteen sometime.

  26. Skid Marx on 26/26/12 at 10:59 pm

    @ benis, post33

There’s a time when anyone, anyone at all must say: Enough is enough.
Nobody really cares whether ‘gay’ people with ‘ADHD’ have dinner with ‘Bush’ or anything like that, or that rethuglicans haven’t produced a universal fiscal policy that provides uninterrupted gruel for The Hispanic Children.
Take yer early springsteen and see if the 12″ vinyl will fit…
This is getting to Hannity level.

9-12-09. Chicago is where it started, bless you Santelli. I was on Randall Road that day, I was the one on the bike, with the Texas Flag on my back. With two hours notice we lined that highway with people who gave a shit, they decided to not be afraid. The most beautiful, transcendent experience of my life. This will be the GOP brand for frugality, not some muse from the mass media.
    You gotta get out more.

  27. qzy on 27/27/12 at 1:02 am

    What is good enough?
When they publicly BEG YOU TO STOP.

Make them BEG you to stop releasing information about their families.

Why? SO, you can ask them why they thought it was a good idea to release information about gun-owner’s families.

    Screw that “fair fighting” BS.

  28. Lightwave on 27/27/12 at 7:09 am

Plenty of tactics in the Alinsky handbook here. These “reporters” have families, children, places of worship, civic organization memberships. A lot of pressure can be applied.

This is a job all about access. Access can and should be revoked. Refuse to cooperate with reporters or give them information. See that they are frozen out of local stories. No stories, no readers.

This is an industry all about advertisers. Pressure them to leave. Make it clear they will be boycotted until they stop advertising in the paper, or until the paper goes under. No advertisers, no publishing.

And after these folks are made social and professional pariahs, facing unemployment and the loss of their careers…finish them off. One more liberal paper destroyed in a very public, very final fashion.

They won’t dare try it again, will they?

  29. mike191 on 27/27/12 at 9:39 am

Bemis you did not answer the question of what compromises Dems are willing to make and/or the ability of “The Fourth Estate” to ask those questions.Instead. you project ,ADHD, and deflect to baying about gays…ad nauseum to some banal diatribe about the sins of President43.

The fact remains: “The Boss is A terrible singer, perhaps, since you know him -he is a fine human being ,other than the tired litmus test of Hispanics, not a monolithic group as you project, the diatribe meanders from Harriet Myers to listening skills you have honed you’re faux indignation to by the pearls of wisdom from “the Boss’.
