Another Obama Victory: US Poverty on Track to Rise to Highest Since 1960s

Barack Obama

The campaign commercials just write themselves. So how’s that War on Poverty working out after spending trillions on it the past 50 years or so?

Not so well, apparently.

The ranks of America’s poor are on track to climb to levels unseen in nearly half a century, erasing gains from the war on poverty in the 1960s amid a weak economy and fraying government safety net.

Census figures for 2011 will be released this fall in the critical weeks ahead of the November elections.

The Associated Press surveyed more than a dozen economists, think tanks and academics, both nonpartisan and those with known liberal or conservative leanings, and found a broad consensus: The official poverty rate will rise from 15.1 percent in 2010, climbing as high as 15.7 percent. Several predicted a more modest gain, but even a 0.1 percentage point increase would put poverty at the highest since 1965.

Poverty is spreading at record levels across many groups, from underemployed workers and suburban families to the poorest poor. More discouraged workers are giving up on the job market, leaving them vulnerable as unemployment aid begins to run out. Suburbs are seeing increases in poverty, including in such political battlegrounds as Colorado, Florida and Nevada, where voters are coping with a new norm of living hand to mouth.

“I grew up going to Hawaii every summer. Now I’m here, applying for assistance because it’s hard to make ends meet. It’s very hard to adjust,” said Laura Fritz, 27, of Wheat Ridge, Colo., describing her slide from rich to poor as she filled out aid forms at a county center. Since 2000, large swaths of Jefferson County just outside Denver have seen poverty nearly double.

If we get to choose let’s go for the trickle down wealth approach not the trickle up poverty approach.

Hey, I know what will fix this! Let’s import millions upon millions of low wage workers from Mexico who will take jobs from American citizens and consume huge amounts of government services at the same time they ship their wages back home! We HAVE to do it prove we’re not racist.

I’d be interested in knowing more about Laura Fritz. Did she go to college and get a degree in something useful? Or has she spent the past 10 years or so having a good time with friends until the money ran out? Or something in-between?

Did she do any saving/investing anytime in the past 10 years? Did she ever take a menial, low-paying job to “pay the rent” or did she just hang out waiting for a handout?

What portion of her income was spent on non-essentials? Just askin’.

Hmm, less time in Hawaii and a few more bucks in the 401k might have been prudent but who are we to judge our fellow citizens on how they use their income.Till they come begging for a handout that is. Suck it up bitches, oh and say HI to Mommy Dearest at the SNAP line. Dont growl or they might not let you have your ration of government cheese.

Congratulations to our Marxist-Socialist-Progressive LIBERALS at all levels of academe, government and non-profits. They have effectively destroyed the American Economy.

Now if we could only ship them to Europe, or Africa or anywhere else on the Globe we might get back to rebuilding America.

Socialists can go straight to hell.

Living in Jeffco, CO, I can attest to the greater number of panhandlers at the access ramps, beaten down wanderers of the city streets with laden bicycles, and loss of retail and general business activity…I’d have to say that we’ve been both Californicated and Obama-ed.

The spending spree our state, county, city, and special government entities created followed the CA-style– public union activity and constitutionally amending education spending–and the new Federal ‘help’ will surely move us deeper into the pit.

Record numbers on food stamps. Record number filing for disability. Record levels of poverty. And the dear leader will have still more Hollywood fundraisers. One was announced over the weekend (Nathan Lane, I think). And we’re supposed to care instead about the “mysterious Mormon”. Gee, go figure.
