They want to free the land by occupying trees now.
Four people were arrested today at the scene of an Occupy tree-sit protest at Frank H. Ogawa Plaza.
At about 12:15 p.m., police made the arrests at the base of a sycamore holding the tree-sitters’ platform. Police said the protesters were taken into custody because they were trying to access the tree.
About a dozen protesters were at the plaza when a matching number of officers showed up to make the arrests, shortly after noon. No injuries were reported and one protester remains in the tree.
The platform was erected overnight in the tree outside Oakland City Hall, with a sign that reads “Free the Land.”
Siaosi Aleamouta, of Oakland, said he spent the night in the tree to reestablish Occupy’s presence at the plaza. “Occupy Oakland is not dead, they cannot destroy our hearts or our minds.”
Maybe not, but we can point and laugh at you.
