“New Company Policy: We are not hiring until Obama is gone”

Well, this isn’t going over well with the Obama zombies. So a company says they won’t be hiring until the occupier of the White House is gone and they’re being reported to the FBI as a threat to national security. So much for freedom of expression.

A west Georgia business owner is stirring up controversy with signs he posted on his company’s trucks, for all to see as the trucks roll up and down roads, highways and interstates:

“New Company Policy: We are not hiring until Obama is gone.”

“Can’t afford it,” explained the employer, Bill Looman, Tuesday evening. “I’ve got people that I want to hire now, but I just can’t afford it. And I don’t foresee that I’ll be able to afford it unless some things change in D.C.”

Looman’s company is U.S. Cranes, LLC.  He said he put up the signs, and first posted pictures of the signs on his personal Facebook page, six months ago, and he said he received mostly positive reaction from people, “about 20-to-one positive.”

But for some reason, one of the photos went viral on the Internet on Monday.

And the reaction has been so intense, pro and con, he’s had to have his phones disconnected because of the non-stop calls, and he’s had to temporarily shut down his company’s website because of all the traffic crashing the system.

Looman made it clear, talking with 11Alive’s Jon Shirek, that he is not refusing to hire to make some political point; it’s that he doesn’t believe he can hire anyone, because of the economy. And he blames the Obama administration.

“The way the economy’s running, and the way my business has been hampered by the economy, and the policies of the people in power, I felt that it was necessary to voice my opinion, and predict that I wouldn’t be able to do any hiring,” he said.

Looman did receive some unexpected attention not long after he put up his signs and Facebook photos. He said someone, and he thinks he knows who it was, reported him to the FBI as a threat to national security. He said the accusation filtered its way through the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security and finally the Secret Service. Agents interviewed him.

“The Secret Service left here, they were in a good mood and laughing,” Looman said. “I got the feeling they thought it was kind of ridiculous, and a waste of their time.”

Just like the Obama presidency.

” So much for freedom of expression.”

You are free to express anything you like. What you are not free from is the consequences of your words. FIRE in a crowded movie hall, for example.

This business owner is horribly misguided, and fool if he lets a President control his hiring decisions. The consequences for his speech is his business is paralyzed by people attempting to weigh in on his politicization of his business. This is called the “free market of ideas” and is one consequence of free expression in an information age.

As for the Secret Service, they are duty bound to investigate any whiff of danger. This has always been true and of all Presidents.

Mess with the bull and get the horns.

How in the world is being investigated by the FBI and the Secret Service a legitimate consequence of expressing your opposition to the POLICY decisions of a sitting President?

Yes, the owner could lose business as a result of this decision. Obama supporters may decide to take their business elsewhere (and have a perfect right to do so), and I’m sure he realized that.

I also realize that the Secret Service has to investigate all threats to the President, no matter how minor they may seem (and understand and agree with that policy). However, being targeted by law enforcement (even mildly) for statements that do not even come close to personal threats is beyond the pale.

Bruce, I suppose that -if you were really, really paranoid- the expression “until Obama is gone” is significant.

…Not to mention it’s the job of the Secret Service to investigate all possible threats. I expect all the major Federal agencies have been nervous ever since they dismissed Oswald as unimportant. Whoops.

    Dear James in LA,

I understand that -since you live in California- you don’t have a very strong grasp of economics, or even literacy. For example, the linked video interview makes it quite clear the man would like to hire people, but can’t afford to. Maybe you should try to (I dunno…) follow the story before you stick your foot in it?

…Still trying to get my mind around what you meant with the “mess with the bull and get the horns” crack. Agree that the SS need to investigate pretty much …everything… I still don’t get the reference. Mr. Looman says he can’t afford any new hires given the current administration, and current economic policies.

Do you mean that when you “mess with the bull” (challenge current Federal policy), you “get the horns” (are punished)?
